Three years ago today my youngest granddaughter, Sunshine, was born.  And Sunshine is certainly an appropriate nickname for her.  PawPaw and I talk about how she looks like a Hummel child — sweet round face and big smile.  She melts my heart when she wraps her arms around me and snuggles up close.

Since I go right past their house on my way to and from work each day, this morning I stopped, tied two balloons on their mailbox with a birthday card attached.  I got a phone call a few minutes later with Sunshine telling me about the balloons.  I sang “Happy Birthday” to her.

Before having grandchildren, I had no idea how much I would love them.  Of course I knew I would love them, but I had no clue of the intensity of the love and the absolute joy I would feel for them.  Sunshine and her sister, Sweet Stuff, are shining lights in my life.

I have a policy of not putting photos of the grandkids on my blog.  So you’ll have to take my word that she’s an absolutely adorable little girl.

Happy Birthday, Sunshine.  Grandma Carol loves you!

It is quite obvious that you are absolutely head over heels in love with your precious granddaughters. I certainly intend to feel the same way when I have grandchildren.
I am getting to practice on my daughter in laws nieces (10, 8, 2). They are adorable and since their grandparents are in Venezuela, they call me abuella (grandmother). It is SO sweet.
Will there be a party for Sunshine later today?

[...] Since the moment she first came into our lives, Sweet Stuff has been an absolute joy to us.  I look at her face and see sweetness and intelligence and kindness and curiosity and love of life shining brightly.  She loves to catch my eye and wink.  It’s so cute!  And nothing is better than being loved by her.  She adores her little sister, Sunshine, and the adoration is returned.  She takes her role of big sister very seriously.  I love being Grandma Carol to both of them.  [...]
