PawPaw and I went to see a movie the other night. We decided to try “Failure to Launch.” We wanted something light and entertaining. We left before it was over. It was close to the top of the “Worst Movies I’ve Ever Seen” list. Absolutely inane and boring.  Consider this your fair warning if you’re thinking of seeing a movie this weekend.

“And should we just throw out the Old Testament? Is there no value or guidance for us there? Is that a COC belief, too - that the Old Testament has no merit? Curious perspective.”
Pretty much true, in my experience with CoC. (Of course, given CoC wcclessiology, local congregations vary.) Throwing out the scriptures recognized by Jesus, Peter, Paul, James, etc., as God’s word (the Word referred to by Paul when he said “All scripture [referring to what we call the OT) is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching—for reproof, correction and doctrine… ” But of course, the CoC folk I have known EISegete this passage and read Paul as referring to his own writing and that of other NT authors, when that plainly takes some twisting of Paul’s own words.
Onc folks play one false authority game, it’s easy to find them playing others…
