Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen Modern Conveniences I Love

(1) Cell phones - they make life so much simpler.  No need to leave phone numbers of where I’ll be or get the number of where someone else will be.  I just call their cell number - and the call goes right to them wherever they are.

(2) TiVo -I just didn’t realize what I was missing until I got it a few months ago.  Only $5 a month and worth every penny!

(3) Television - It has its bad aspects, but with good judgments, it can be fun and beneficial.

(4) Radio - I only listen to it in my car, but it sure makes the trip to and from work each day more enjoyable.

(5) GPS System (I don’t have one, but my daughter does, and I love driving her car and seeing the progress of the car on the little GPS map)

(6) Computers - Word-Processing, spreadsheets - I can’t believe I used to use typewriters all the time - with correction tape or fluid.  It’s so much simpler now to write.

(7) Email - So convenient and allows people to keep in touch more easily.

(8) My car - I’ve had a convertible for the past six years, and I love it.  There’s just nothing like the wind in my hair on a warm spring day.  It is a feeling of freedom.

(9) Flush toilets - When I think of how people had to live prior to the invention of flush toilets . . . .nahhh don’t want to think about it.  -)

(10) Internet shopping - Except for groceries I don’t go shopping very often.  It’s so much simpler to order whatever I need online.  And eBay is a great way to buy and sell things.

(11) Voice mail/answering machines - no worries about not being there to receive an important phone call.

(12) My Keurig coffee maker - The single cup thing is wonderful.  I can make a single cup of coffee or chamomile tea or vanilla decaf coffee - or whatever K-cup I happen to want at the time.  One of my better investments.

(13) Showers with lots of hot water.  Really, there’s not much better than a warm shower at the end of a long day.

So how did we live w/o tivo, internet and cell phones? I will never know.

  2. Leanne Says:

I just don’t know what we’d do without all of these modern conveniences, you know? I was speaking with a missionarry just back from Mexico and he was having the hardest time figuring out his cell phone number from all of the menu options on his tiny little phone, I think he’d have been happier to send me a note in a bottle attached to a goat! LOL

Definitely can’t live without computers (okay, I probably can, but I’ll be very miserable). Strange though, I’m not into cellphones as much. My brothers and several of my aunts go gaga over them. they just have to have the latest model hehehe.

  6. Mrs. Fun Says:

I am so waiting for my coffee maker to break so I can get myself #12. Sounds heavenly.

  7. Matt Says:

Imagine being able to e-mail in a shower with a lot of hot water. That would be so cool!

I agree they all help. It will be great if we can work out a way to simplify the number of battery chargers required fo all of the different portable devices!

    My TT is up!

  13. Tricia Says:

Great list- I think I agree with almost all of them. We have a PVR (similar to Tivo) and I love it. you can go out live your life and still not miss any of your favorite shows. )

You make me feel really backward as I dont have: 1,2, 5 or 8.
I can agree with the rest, though!

  15. Nancy Says:

I couldn’t live with any of these. Well, maybe the cell phone and I am too cheap for TIVO.

Hey you forgot Washer/Dryers! I don’t think I could do the beat
laundry on rocks, wring dry and clothesline stuff anymore. =O)

  20. Nicole Says:

I don’t know what I’d do without my cell phone. I never use a landline anymore unless I’m at work.

I don’t have TiVo but I really want it. Bad. Even though I don’t watch a lot of TV. Atleast then I could watch what I want whenever I wanted to.

My computer and email are right up there with my cell phone.

I dont have GPS but I’d like to. )

    Happy TT!

  23. Mrs. Cranky Pants Says:

I’m not sure I could survive without my cell phone. I don’t even have a house phone anymore.

  24. Amy the Black Says:

I can tell you from experience that a lot of those things are nice, but you ~can~ live without them. Most of last summer I did without a majority of those things, and I somehow survived. Okay, I had most of them at work during the day. But at home, I didn’t have a flush toilet. Not much fun!
