Thirteen Things About Summer That Should Be Against The Law

(If I were the one making laws for the summer, these are a few I’d insist on!)

1.  A summer without seeing a Fourth of July fireworks display should be against the law.

2.  A summer without a beach trip should be against the law.

3.  A summer without making homemade ice cream should be against the law.

4.  A summer without a picnic on a blanket should be against the law.

5.  A summer without a trip to pick blueberries should be against the law

6.  A summer without regular visits to the farmers’ market should be against the law.

7.  A summer without a fresh tomato sandwich should be against the law.

8.  A summer without ripe, red, juicy watermelon should be against the law.

9.  A summer without a newly-picked vegetable meal of creamed corn, sliced tomatoes, sliced Vidalia onion, new potatoes, fried okra, purple hull peas and cornbread should be against the law.

10.  A summer without going swimming should be against the law.

11.  A summer without a trip to the mountains to wade in an ice-cold mountain stream should be against the law.  (This could be combined with #4)

12.  A summer without a family reunion (or a trip to visit family) should be against the law.

13.  A summer without sweet ice tea should be against the law.

Great T13! So many items on this list appeal to me and summer isn’t even my favorite season of the year. I’d love to spend a day doing #4, #5, and #11. Too bad I don’t live near any mountains or know where to go to pick blueberries!

    My list is up.

  5. Cricket Says:

    What a fun list! I can’t wait.

I’ll add: scope around all of June looking for the blackberry patches to raid in July.

    Here’s my saucy TT.

  8. beth Says:

What do you do with Thursday 13? Do you make up your own subject or is there one that everyone post on every week?

    Just wondering )

  9. Gidget Bones Says:

That is a great list, and it reminds me of childhood days with my family!

  10. Kailani Says:

Defintiely #1 & #2. How about a trip to the beach to watch the fireworks? Great T13 list!

  11. Mom Nancy Says:

I can get behind most of these even though I know some of them won’t happen due to our financial situation and where we live. However, I can’t stand sweet tea. We moved to the south from Pennsylvania last year and it just reinforced my belief that sweet tea is just nasty. Sorry!

    My TT is up.

  12. Utenzi Says:

It’s likely that I’ll be breaking a lot of those laws, Carol. I’m pretty sure I’ll indulge in the family trip, and the ice tea but the rest are chancey at best. I’d like the watermelon but it makes the inside of my mouth swell up a little and itch a lot.

Can I substitute kayaking for the beach? I like open water so there’s no sand around–and as long as I do it right, there won’t be any swimming. I don’t swim worth a damn!

  13. carol Says:

OK, David, if you’re allergic to watermelon, we won’t prosecute you for not eating any. And I GUESS we can substitute kayaking for the beach. -)

  14. Utenzi Says:

I just saw the results from our last match, Carol. Have you pissed everyone off or something? That was very lopsided. As I recall, you won the last 2 or 3 matches…it’s very hard to figure out why these contests turn out the way they do.

I might have a little watermelon. It’s more likely to work out well than cantelope is–which is horrible since I just love cantelope. Watermelon is great when it’s really sweet.

  15. Jane Says:

Great list!!! Especially the tomato sandwich…YUMMY. Of course, it has to be on white bread with good mayo and salt and pepper.
My list is up (but I am late…my modem was bonkers today!).

  16. angie Says:

You have completely covered all the great things about summer!! Brings back a lot of memories, too.
