RT wants a dog - a British Labrador, to be specific. Tonight we looked at a litter of puppies. They’re all black and they’re as cute as they can be. We will select the one we want next Friday - at a farm in Mississippi where they’ll have the official puppy selection.
I’ve never been a pet person. I don’t have anything against dogs or cats. I just have never enjoyed being around them. I don’t care for the dog “smell” and I don’t enjoy cleaning up the inevitable messes. However, RT really wants a dog. So here are my 13 reasons to be happy about getting a puppy.
1. RT really wants a dog. It means a lot to him.
2. Walking the dog would provide me with much needed exercise.
3. The discipline of taking care of a dog would be good for me.
4. The routine of feeding, brushing, caring for the dog would be beneficial.
5. The dog would provide companionship.
6. I would get outside and enjoy fresh air and sunshine (or rain and cold, as the case might be) by walking the dog.
7. The dog would provide company for me when RT is out of town.
8. The dog would also provide protection for me when RT is out of town.
9. Puppies are cute - and I like that.
10. The grandkids would enjoy having a puppy at PawPaw and Grandma Carol’s house.
11. It would be fun to play with the dog.
12. The dog would provide companionship for RT on some of his business trips (which would negate #7 and #8 above)
13. It would give me the opportunity to prove that I can be successful in owing and training a dog.

I was never much of a dog person either. But when we got Smokie everything changed. He has stolen my heart and I am now one of “those people” who treats their dog like a human. Let yourself go and you will fall in love with your puppy!

Cute puppy!!! We just auctioned off a black lab 8 week old puppy - it went for $5700!!!! How great is THAT!

We just got a new puppy, too, and LOVE HER. I posted a pic of her yesterday. It’s very important to get a pet matched to the owner’s, as well. Your dog looks really handsome!

i really love puppies and dogs but i guess there’s more to it than just all fun and having one as a pet in general. i guess i wont be that patient. LOL. i still dont know…maybe when i get married i’ll get a puppy for those reasons in your list haha…my TT is up, drop by if u can =)

We just got a puppy this past March. There are pictures of him on my blog, if you scroll down a few posts. He’s a Boston Terrier. I was really worried about the whole housebreaking process and just having to train a new puppy. I had never done that before. All I can say is that it is amazingly like bringing your first baby home from the hospital. They go from infant to toddler to teenager rather quickly, though. Put in the effort that first year and you will have a great dog. I suggest the New Skeet Monks’ books about puppy and dog training. You can find them at Amazon.com. They really helped us out with training our puppy and kept us all consistent.

Awwww… I just got a puppy this past Spring. He’s a Pug — “The cutest puppy in the world” according to some woman in the airport recently.
Anyway, he practically goes everywhere with me now and I have become one of “those people”. He goes to “doggy daycare” when I’m at work (which he loves) and he travels with me. He goes to the hairdresser with me where he’s pampered by all the hairdressers. The fact is that he arrived on the scene and stole everyone’s hearts. I can’t imagine not having him now and I can’t believe he’s mine most of the time.

How exciting! A new puppy!! We have a black lab/border collie mix and I tell you that dog has got to be the most well behaved, sensible dog in the world!! We love her!!
