I have a reply to all of you. I'm a senior in High School, and just happened to stumble on this debate. So, of course, I decided to join in. I don't know the difference between the right and the left, but I can tell whose side each of you are on. And that isn't what this is about. When you go into war, you do have the traditional sides. We want to win. But this isn't a traditional war. War is normally about a specific problem or issue. This war is open-ended. I can't seem to find what is on the other side.

We are apparently going to war to end terrorism, but to these countries we are the terrorists. We are going to go to war to remove dangerous weapons from the hands of those who would foolishly use them, and we might be willing to use ours in the process. We are going to war to avenge 9-11, that sounds like junior high to me. I understand your views, that is a gift I have. I can look at all sides of an argument. Maybe some of you need to take a look at the other side once in a while. If some of you are right, and some are left, then I'm in the middle.

I agree that democracy is a very good political system. After all, we have it and we are still one country. Technically anyway. I agree that we must disagree, but we can still be united.

First things first, WE ARE AT WAR. No matter what, that is the truth and there is no denying the fact. There also should be no "What ifs". They don't help any. We all disagree on the point of whether or not we should stay in the war. I have my own opinion on this one. I think we should help the country get their feet back under them. I know the potential problems with this, but there will be problems with every plan. I also believe that this is no race. It will take a while to do this. We got into this mess, and we have to get out of it.

I agree that Bush has made some mistakes, and I disagree with many of my republican friends, but Bush didn't start all of this. Bush is a smart man, but not very, in my opinion. He did the best he could under the circumstances, but maybe not the best that could have been done. I refuse to either demolish any good opinion of Bush, or idolize him.

I've said alot, probably annoyed a lot of you too. But like I said, I'm still in High School. Try to be a little more open minded towards each other. That is what democracy is about.

TMS: Miss Catherine, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to make such a thoughtful comment. For the most part, I agree with you. However, I don't think we are the terrorists to the people in Iraq. The vast majority are thankful we are there. It is just the terrorists and the left-wingers who are trying to make it sound like we're the aggressors.

"Someday the Democrats will answer to a higher power for the damage they have caused our country and the deaths of our service men and women caused by their widespread and deliberate emboldening of our enemies. A united America would have defeated the Islamic extremists long ago."

Wow. Just, wow.

Carol, it's obvious from reading your blog that you're generally a decent person, but this post is an absolute goldmine of crazy.

A statement like the above, my friends, is an excellent representation of everything that is WRONG with this country right now.

Emboldening our enemies? Those of you on the right need a dose of reality, and it's high time for you to accept your responsibility in regards to the quagmire in Iraq and stop blaming the people who don't support you 100% for the mess over there. It's truly pathetic and proves that you don't have a leg to stand on in this debate.

Believe it or not, Islamic extremists have been around for a long time.

I know, I know...what I just said was mind-blowing. I'll allow to you to digest that, let it sink in for a while.

Alright.

They hated America long before the Iraqi invasion or even 9/11. If all of us who don't support this war or the President suddenly did a 180, it wouldn't change a damn thing, the extremists would still hate us. Anyone who suggests otherwise needs to lay off the Kool-Aid.

I hate to say it, but those of you on the right have turned into Nazis with this propaganda bs, and it makes me want to puke.

American men and women are dying EVERY DAY in Iraq for no good reason. Sure, you tell us it's about spreading democracy or eliminating a dictator we supported until he was no longer useful to us or fighting terrorism or WMDs or whatever flavor-of-the-week excuse you can come up with next, but personally, I'm tired of hearing these "reasons" change faster than the weather.

I ask, for the 1,256,834th time...WHY ARE WE OVER IN IRAQ?

And what's worse...you support a fool who wants to send 20,000 MORE Americans to die over there? Seriously, how do you people sleep at night?

I'm sick of hearing this crap about "winning" and "losing" over there. We lost Iraq the minute we invaded. It's time to face the facts...

THEY WILL NEVER FULLY ACCEPT THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE. Ok?

You talk about how all Muslims are pure evil, they're all terrorists...yet, unbelievably, you want to convert them and make them change their lifestyle, belief structure, etc.

Good luck with that.

But hey, if you want to attempt to convert the world, make them conform to our so-called standards, knock yourself out.

Those of us who aren't wrapped in an eternal cloak of fear and actually CARE about the future of this country will be standing over THERE.

Yes, I'm questioning YOUR patriotism, righties.

I'm tired of the blame game.

TMS: If you want me to take you seriously, then respond to what I write and not to your own prejudices about conservatives. You've "put words in my mouth" that have never been on TMS. And since you admit that America was hated long before George W. Bush, why do you blame him for that hate? Just curious. You can't blame Bush for all that's wrong in the world and admit that it was wrong before he came along, too.

George Bush and the State of the Union Address...

I have found myself thinking a lot lately about what I would like to hear the President say tonight in his State of the Union Address. Unfortunately, what I’ve heard in the news about what is expected is simply disappointing.

Are all of those comments from the same person just changing their name? lol It looks like they are just saying the same thing over and over and over again. But then, that's what parrots do, I suppose.

I was hoping to see the President speak with more strength. I did like his reminder that they did not vote for defeat. The brief comments he made about the war were good - he just needed to say more. I so wish he would quit with the trying to teach Iraq how to be democratic. We need to control the country first - then gradually give it back to them. Germany and Japan are perfect examples that unconditional surrender does actually end the hostilities.

I do understand how illegal immigration issues and the war against jihadists are connected. Both need to be dealt with, with more strength and resolve. But if I disagree with him on immigration doesn't mean I have to disagree with him on the Battle of Iraq.

Carol you are correct. I would like to se all of us be more civil. Bush's speech was excellent.
The line among the Democrars hta botehrs me is " "Bush lied" about WMD's" . This is a lie that has been said over and over so many times people accept it. This has given comfort to our enemies and has played into the mess we are in.
I heard Pres. Clinton say that Iraq had "weapons of Mass destruction" Most of the nation and the world beleived they had WMD's...Congress agreed. This is the major reason we went into IRAQ in the first place.

I am basically a pacifist. I went through the horror of WWII with a husband and two brothers, friends overseas, War never really solves problems but it our fallen sinful world it seems to be the only solution. But it is a short term solution. Now that we are having a war fought in full view of all of us, we see the horror of it more closely.

So I would like to see all of us ...disagree without being so "disagreeable",

Well, at least last night, the President was gracious and so was the Speaker.

Meinshaft, You are an idiot, If the Bush admin sealed the border the Iraq issue would still be in the forefront of our thoughts, HOWEVER Bush would have much more credibility when he says "Protecting America is Job #1"

I would support a complete anhialtaion of everything Middle Eastern at this point, I unlike you want to put America first, I am tired of trying to prove to the world that we care about others, when everytime we do we get kicked in the teeth...

I suggest you wake the hell up and look around, the world opinion of America was shit before Bush, and will be after he's gone, thanks to folks like you who bash America from within and give our enemy hope.

You are an ally of our enemy, how do you feel? Hypocrite

You take everything America has to offer and when the chips are down YOU take the side of the enemy? Good job.....

Carol,

Why did your Idol-in-Chief change his rhetoric on Bin Laden from using words like "hunt" to phrases and I quote directly "not that concerned"? Why were 20 members of the Bin Laden family allowed to leave the US(on a charter plane) on Sept 12th when the only other planes flying were military? Why have we committed 7 times the resources to Iraq(v. Afganistan), when Bin Laden is on video gloating over the twin towers collapsing? This isn't about left v. right. This is about common sense. Are you "not concerned" about the whereabouts of Bin Laden, don't we owe it to the families of 9-11 to be at least concerned if not rabidly outraged? I don't have the answers to all these questions, but "something doth stink in Denmark" Carol, Saddam did not attack us, Bin Laden and Co. did. Please drink from the refreshing spring of logic and truth.

I love this part from Robert:

"Look, Bush is or was the best man for the job, until he sold out our country in the Immigration area.

Iraq would still garner the support of MANY if he would strengthen his stance on our border issue."

That anyone with two brain cells that are connected (connected is the catch, here) could STILL make this assertion is beyond incredible. You mean the best man his cabal could steal the presidency for?

And Robert, are you saying that Americans would support this madman in his lusted-for illegitimate war as long as they closed off our borders? Is that what you are saying, Robert? If it is, and if you are right, this nation is in far worse trouble than I imagined.

And Robert, are you saying that Americans would support this madman in his lusted-for illegitimate war as long as they closed off our borders? Is that what you are saying, Robert? If it is, and if you are right, this nation is in far worse trouble than I imagined.

The folks who parrot "Bush Lied" and "Bush tortures prisoners" are apparently immune to the truth. The truth would totally discount their theories. The lying and the torturing stuff is fabrication. Torturing prisoners? Give me a break. That's what the terrorists do. And the few (EXTREMELY few) American soldiers who crossed the line between appropriate and inappropriate treatment of prisoners were brought up on charges and handled by the court system - as they should have been. And Teresa - Bush's cherished war. You folks have so demonized Bush that you are totally blinded to the truth.

Carol, amen to your assessment of Bush's position. I believe that he will go down in the history books like Lincoln, who held onto principle in the face of fierce opposition. I do not understand people who, like the current democratic leadership, want to take the easy way out and just hope, against any reason, that the jihad leaders will leave us alone.
And I am concerned that people responding to your blog, throw insults at you (I hope you have scurvy?) rather than engaging in intelligent discourse. Debi
