Since I really enjoy cooking, I watched parts of the show “The Next Food Network Star”  the past two seasons.  I enjoy seeing how people create original and good-tasting dishes.   The first year’s winners were forgettable - literally.  I can’t remember who won - just that it was a pair of guys who were so blah that I don’t remember anything about their cooking or whether their show got beyond the guaranteed six shows.   I made it a point to watch their show after it aired, but was so underwhelmed that I turned it off midway through the show and never looked for it again.

This past season’s winner, though, was Guy Fieri.  When I saw that his show - Guy’s Big Bite - was on, I set TiVo for a season pass so I could watch it sometimes.  If it was bad, I would just cancel the season pass.  TiVo is one of my favorites in modern technology.

Since I’ve been sick the past few days, I’ve spent a lot of time watching TV and catching up on shows that I’ve TiVo’ed over the past few weeks.  Yesterday I was watching ”Guy’s Big Bite” when RT came into the room.  “Who’s THAT?” was his question.  Guy’s look is certainly a memorable one - white spiked hair, and he wears baggy shorts - almost an adolescent look.   I think his look is part of his charm.

Guy’s got a good thing going with his show.  Despite his unique looks, he comes off as just a regular guy with his buddies making food for their manly get-togethers.   I like the friendly banter he carries on with the friends who come in to help him prepare dishes.   And the racecar refrigerator can’t hurt - and the fact that he makes unique drinks to go along with each meal.

My prediction is that his show will do all right.  He might not end up being a major “star” of The Food Network, but I think he will be a popular part of it.
