Darn it!  Another of my favorite couples on THE AMAZING RACE - Rob and Amber - hit a run of bad luck.  They didn’t realize they had misspelled “Phillipines” in a roadblock challenge and thus wasted precious time.   As a result, they were the last ones to reach the pitstop, and they were eliminated from the show last night.

And, sadly, the most irritating duo in the world, Charla and Mirna, scraped by once again.  Charla and Mirna are absolute pros at looking into the camera with their “poor me” big eyes and talking about how honest and wonderful they are and how terrible the other teams are - all the while lying and cheating and badmouthing their way into reaching the pitstop barely in time to remain in the race.  Mirna is shrill and annoying, and Charla has such a “please pity me - I’m a little person - I have so much to overcome” attitude, I just can’t wait for them to be off the show so I don’t have to look at or listen to them again.

I enjoyed watching the interaction between Rob and Amber.  They are a real team - working together and communicating well rather than yelling at each other and acting ridiculous like so many of the other teams.  And they were first on the previous three legs of the race.  Too bad THE AMAZING RACE doesn’t have some kind of system so that a fluke like the misspelled word doesn’t have to be the death knell for an otherwise strong team.

I hope you don’t mind, but here is my 2 cents on The Amazing Race. I was never a fan of Rob and Amber. Never. Their way of “playing” the game always looked dishonest and very much lacking in sportmanship. I realize it is a game with a big prize but others seem to do fine by being honest. I think it is that arrogant “grin” and I’m so good at this and the rest are so dumb. I much prefer the quiet workings of the black couple who I enjoyed in a previous race who have developed so much confidence and there is no fighting or bad words. Also I believe Rob’s downfall was particially due to his careless checking for their mail letting it spill on the floor. This is one of my favorite programs. I get to travel to places I will never get to go myself and it has been an eye opener to countries which are so beautiful and the people so kind that it just makes you want to visit them. I also dislike the “beauty Queens. Theres something about the pasted on smiles, all the time, no matter what, that looks so phoney. Sorry about this length. Enjoy your blog.

TMS: I can understand not liking Rob and Amber. Just don’t tell me you like Charla and Mirna. -)

Personally, I think they lost on purpose. You don’t come in first 3 times and then lose that badly.

They said on Regis this morning that they had something “big” in the works…so, I think their schedule had to be cleared for upcoming events.

TMS: Now that’s an idea I hadn’t considered! It would sure make sense. Isn’t THE AMAZING RACE filmed in about 30 days, though? You’d think that even with somehting big in the works, they could spend 30 days finishing the race.

Yep..rob and amber will certainly be missed. They are no doubt one of the best teams ever. smile

    Good blog!

I’m figuring Oswald & Danny for the win. They really enjoy the game, and they have no weaknesses as racers, except perhaps that they’re so busy having fun.

BTW : the race itself takes place over the course of about 18-20 days, though this one had two unexpected hitches, from what I’ve heard. It took place from Thanksgiving Week on into the first weeks of December 2006. Another day or so are usually used for filming after-race chats and debriefings and such, but these racers already know the ropes, so there’s not much to tell them.

TMS: Thanks. I REALLY want the older couple to win - can’t think of their names right now, though - just because the old folks have never won on Amazing Race. I hope Uchenna and Joyce don’t win - since they’ve already won once.

I’ve seen others go from 1st to last…not that unusual…I’ve been watching repeats of the previous Amazing Races and others have gone from lst to last and visa versa….last to first even without the fast forward…just a few nights before Romber got eliminated, a couple went from lst to last so that gave me hope it could work for Romber too..So glad they are gone and if they lost on purpose, that’s sad cuz they wasted a spot for another couple to get the chance to win!!!! Typical Rob and Amber though if that is true… twisted

It would have suck to see them win again, Rob gloating and Amber sitting next to him all smug. Good ridance. twisted
