I haven’t written much lately because I’ve been busy with the house and also busy getting my portfolio together to apply for a position at a different school.  I love my school, and I love my job - and the position I applied for is the same I have now - reading specialist.  However, the position I’ve applied for has several things going for it:  (1) It would cut my drive time in half; (2) It would cut my drive distance in half; and best of all (3) it is at the school that Sweet Stuff attends.  I would not only see her often - and then after next year I’d see Sunshine there each day, too - but I can help my daughter with taking them to and from school sometimes.  Just being so close will be a help to them - and a thrill for me.  Without a doubt,  I REALLY wanted that job!   Their current reading specialist is retiring at the end of this school year, and as soon as she told me her plans, I got my name in the hat for her job.

Since I knew that there were at least two other people who were interested in the job, I fully expected the principal to tell me that he had other interviews to do and that he’d get in touch with me within a few weeks.

Nope!  He told me he was certain he wanted me for the position after talking with my current principal, his current reading specialist and the curriculum director, and that the interview confirmed that for him.  He said he would call the curriculum director first thing in the morning and request me.  He even showed me around the school and talked about what the school’s needs in terms of reading.

That portfolio I spent so much time on?  Imust say it looks really good, and I’m very proud of it.  He thumbed through a few pages - while talking to me (so he obviously wasn’t studying it very closely), and that was that.  I could have put blank pages in the three-fourths and he’d never have known.

So this job change means I will move classrooms this summer in addition to moving into the new house.  However, that isn’t daunting to me.  Been there - done that - can handle it.  I’m just so pleased I can’t stand it!

Now I just have to be “cool” at school for the next few weeks and not act like a doofus for being so excited about changing jobs.  I’m afraid my current co-workers might not understand that my excitement has nothing to do with them - and everything to do with being in the same school as my grandgirls.  The shorter time/distance issue is just a bonus.

Congrats on the new job! That’s so exciting!

P.S.-The shower invites look amazing! And they’re very similar to my wedding invites (same vellum over cardstock style with the ribbon–I’m mailing them tomorrow, so you should see it by the end of the week). Thank you so much for taking the time to make them look so beautiful!

Can’t wait to see you in a couple of weeks!

TMS: You are welcome, Jess. I loved the way the invitations turned out, too. The shower will be so much fun! I’m looking forward to seeing you then.

Congrats MOm! Sweet Stuff is very excited. Sunshine said you were too old for school. I don’t think she gets that you are a teacher, but Sweet Stuff does. She was really excited you also met her teacher and saw the classroom.

    Love you Lots!

I am curious about what you included in your portfolio. Any ideas - as many as possible would be great! Thanks for your time and help.

TMS: Thanks for the interest and comment, Maggie. I included samples of my monthly newsletter, a copy of the student-written literary magazine that I edit. Then I had my resume, a list of accomplishments in my current position, etc. It’s been a couple months since I looked at it. So I can’t remember everything I put in it.
