This weekend my mother mentioned the following poem by Leigh Hunt.  I remember it from a long time ago.  When we looked it up in my mother’s book on poetry, we found this poem is described as a trarnsition to the rondeau form of poetry.  The opening half of line one reappears as the refrain in line eight.

It’s a wonderful poem, and reminds us that no matter what else can be said about our lives, we each have some of those special moments such as when “Jenny kissed me.”

Jenny Kissed Me

~By Leigh Hunt~

Jenny kissed me when we met,
     Running to the chair I sat in.
Time, you thief, who love to get
     Sweets upon your list, put that in!
Say I’m weary, say I’m sad,
     Say that health and wealth have missed me;
Say I’m growing old, but add -
     Jenny kissed me.

I just love that poem! Probably because it always makes me think of those little moments in my own life that stand out from all the others - moments that make my life unique.
