After almost 24 hours of taking a muscle relaxer (Skelaxin), my neck is beginning to feel a little better.  Mind you, it still hurts like hell if I move my neck.  However, I have a little broader range of motion before the pain kicks in.  One thing puzzles me, though:  I don’t think painkillers work for me.  I remember when I was in the hospital after having surgery about twelve years ago.  They gave me a morphine drip, and I could bump it up as needed.  I don’t recall that the morphine ever made the pain less intense; it just made me woozy.

Now I’m taking hydrocodon (Lortab) for this neck pain, and I think the only thing it does is make me sleepy.  Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see a difference in the pain level.  It seems that aspirin and/or Aleve works better for me than the prescription pain medication.

The good news, though, is that I am definitely feeling better today than I did yesterday.

You are right. Another name for it is oxycontin. It is a very strong synthetic opiate and very highly sought on the illicit market.

It will make you not care about the pain, though.

I think I still cared about the pain - I just felt too out-of-it to complain.
