So I’m watching the long drawn-out “Idol Gives Back” show. They’ve sure got some big name celebrities doing the beg-for-your-money thing. This show makes me wonder why, if they’re so very interested in doing something worthwhile and helpful to those less fortunate, they don’t give all the proceeds from the show itself. No, they’d rather pimp the contestants and celebrities to get the regular old folks out there in TV land to give their money - while the AI folks keep their own fortunes. I just can’t get very much into the whole thing because it seems so self-serving of them. It isn’t really “Idol Gives Back” but “Idol Fans Give Back.”
Oh Wow - there’s Bono without sunglasses! Hey - that’s worth at least a couple of bucks’ donation, isn’t it? Now they’ve got Annie Lennox crying uncontrollably. It’s such a blatant play on the viewer’s emotions. It just turns me off.Â
I’m not heartless. I have donated money every single month for years to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. RT and I give money weekly to our church. I just am totally turned off by a program that is entirely planned and produced by very rich people in order to get ordinary people to give away their money.
Now they’ve got High School Musical stars Vanessa Hutchins and Ashley Tisdale on the show urging kids to “dig into your piggy banks.” They were followed by Miley Cyrus.
It’s working -Â they’ve raised millions of dollars at this point.
Oh dear! I’ve been watching the show too long. It’s beginning to get to me. LOL! I’ll be calling in before I know it. I’d like to know how much of the money that is donated is really used for humanitarian purposes.  What percentage is used for “administrative costs” or “political donations” or for anything other than directly going to help people?
