Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, and her husband Todd have a new baby boy named Trig. Trig was born on on Friday, April 18th. The Palins knew before Trig’s birth that he would have “special challenges.” Until last night, it wasn’t widely known what those challenges were. Yesterday Governor Palin’s office confirmed that Trig has Down Syndrome.

Here is the story from the Anchorage Daily News:
Gov. Sarah Palin was back at work today, holding a meeting on the natural gas pipeline three days after giving birth to her fifth child.
Palin and her husband, Todd, showed the baby, Trig Paxson Van Palin, to a few reporters and talked about the sooner-than-expected delivery.
Trig arrived about a month early and has Down syndrome, the governor confirmed. Testing during early pregnancy revealed the condition. Palin said she was sad at first but they now feel blessed that God chose them. The couple has lots of family support, she said.
The story reminds me of the movie I saw the other day, “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter.”
I often hear “Faith Break” on the radio by Dr. Howard Olds, and this morning’s Faith Break was about the “eternal purpose” of each person. God has a purpose and a place for Trig. God bless the Palins and God bless Trig.

God Bless Todd and Sarah Palin for their decision to love this child when so many would have chosen another route. May God richly bless them.
