It has been fascinating watching all the media attention given to Jeremiah Wright and the Barack Obama the past few days. While Barack Obama seemed very sincere at his press conference today, it is virtually impossible to believe him.
Jeremiah Wright came out of all this looking like a petulant child. He is quick to list all his accomplishments, his credentials and his degrees - and then he acts and talks in such a way that negates the dignity of those accomplishments/credentials/degrees.
Then today, Barrack Obama came off as sincere - but less than believable and certainly incapable of handling the situation effectively in a timely manner. While I disagree completely with Obama’s politics, it is sad that he is being sabotaged by his own minister.
Right now I’m watching CNN, and there is a Rev. Norwood Thompson, president of the SCLC, talking about Jeremiah’s accomplishments - as though that somehow makes Wright’s rants okay. Now he is talking about how Wright’s speeches didn’t hurt him in the “African-American community” but might have in the “white community.” What’s with this habit of putting people in racial groups? Do they see everything as black vs. white?
Rev. Thompson then cited Wright’s credentials in the military and then said, “I don’t know why we’re trying to make him out as some kind of demogogue right now - that he’s out of touch with America?” Rev. Thompson, no one has to make Wright out as a demogogue. He’s doing a wonderful job of that all by himself.
I looked up the definition of “demogogue.” Here it is: a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power The definition fits Wright - and even Obama - to a t.
Jeremiah Wright is obviously a raving racist with an enormous ego. Obama comes off as unbelievable when he tries to make us believe that after 20 years of close association with Wright, Obama didn’t realize the true character of the man - and that after 20 years of attending a church, he doesn’t agree with the “black liberation theology” that is such a key part of that church.
As of right now, it appears that Obama’s chances of being elected are pretty much shot. However, there’s no telling what will happen between now and November. As much as I dislike Obama, I almost wish he’d get the nomination because I think John McCain would crush him in the general election.

You hit the nail on the head. Rev. Wright did sound like a petulant child! I think he is enjoying his moment in the limelight. If this is the kind of person that Obama would choose to be on an advisory committee for his campaign we certainly do NOT need him to our President. He obviously does not make good choices.
