Here is a video of “Tim Russert’s Rainbow” - the version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” that was played at Tim Russert’s funeral - along with footage of some of the guests at the funeral - John McCain and Barack Obama side-by-side. Then there is a still photo of the rainbow. Enjoy:

The ukelele version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” just stopped me in my tracks. I had never heard it before and it is just remarkable. As a devoted “Meet the Press” fan and an p/t time radio broadcaster, Tim’s death was shocking and a great loss. Seldom has music made an impact on me like this. I watched the “Meet the Press” tribute from Sunday’s show three times. I’ll also be buying the music. And to think a rainbow came out over Washington when the service ended. As Tim would say, “Wow!”.

I had heard the version of ’somewhere over the rainbow,” by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole… and thought what great sensitivity and beauty in the voice of this man…I believe I heard, he too sadly died this year. What a beautiful choice. A song with sensitivity, a man with it, who sings it, and the man it is song for…sweet, sensitive and soothing. God Bless…wonderful choice.
