I’m embarrassed to admit that RT and I watch CNN a lot. They’re so blatantly biased towards leftist politics, but usually they try to keep a semblance of objectivity, and so we continue to watch. It’s just a habit - and definitely one we need to kick.
Today has been an eye-opening experience. David Gergen and other “commentators” just can’t handle the fact that John McCain has selected Sarah Palin as his VP nominee. Anderson Cooper is the only one that seems to be able to maintain a sense of objectivity. Roland Martin was his usual verbose self - just tut-tut-tutting his way through his comments. And Campbell Brown (is that her name?) literally shrieked - repeatedly - at a Republican spokesperson who dared to argue that Sarah Palin is more qualified to be Vice President than Barack Obama is to be President. Truly, she was yelling. It was incredible.
Jack Cafferty was rendered virutally incoherent with his emotions, and James Carville was hilarious. He just couldn’t contain his fear which he cloaked in an act of incredulity at McCain’s choice. Last night the dems were convinced they were invincible. And suddenly John McCain throws them this curve-ball of Sarah Palin who can totally whip Obama’s ass in what she has accomplished in her few years of public service. While Obama’s been talking, Palin’s being actually acting on her words to her constituents.
The temple of Obama was front and center last night, and today it was like yesterday’s “Where were YOU when Barack Obama accepted the nomination” hadn’t happened.
I wrote a post about Sarah Palin back in April of this year. Ever since then I’ve been hoping she’d be McCain’s pick. I was okay if he had chosen Mitt Romney, but I really really wanted him to choose Palin. When it seemed likely this morning that it would go Palin’s way, I was so excited. It was frustrating because I couldn’t be near a TV to hear McCain or Palin live. I had to wait till this evening and just see exerpts of their speeches.
Today I had over ten thousand visita to this blog - most of them as a result of Google searches about Sarah Palin - going to that post I wrote in April. Everyone’s attention has been on Sarah Palin. Wow, that had to really grate on the dem’s nerves. And I guess that explains the anger and hostility of the CNN folks.

“All McCain had to do to win was eavesdrop on Bill and Hillary’s room last night.”

Wouldn’t you have loved to hear THAT conversation?
Sphere: Related ContentAugust 26th - my birthday. They’re coming awfully fast now. This is my 59th birthday celebration, and tonight the kids and grandkids will take me out to dinner to celebrate. I’m looking forward to it. My mother wrote about my birthday at her blog, Ruthlace, and it was a very tender and sweet thing to read. Thank you, Mother.

So happy birthday to me. And it WILL be a happy birthday. Today is Sunshine’s first full day of kindergarten. She’ll be at my school all day, and when the school day is over, she and Sweet Stuff will come to my classroom to go home with me. And thus it will be this year. On most afternoons I will see the faces of the two most precious little girls in the world as we head home from school together. THAT is one of the greatest blessings in the world.
Fifty-nine. I remember growing up and thinking about the year 2000 and how far away it was. I’d think, “I’ll turn 51 in 2000. That’s so old!” Now my 51st year is way back down the road in the rear view mirror, and I’m entering the 60th year of my life. I feel very optimistic. It’s going to be a good year.

Kim Kardashian
Susan Lucci of “All My Children”
Lance Bass
Brooke Burke
Cloris Leachman
Toni Braxton
Rocco DiSpirito
Cody Linley of “Hannah Montana”
Jeffrey Ross, comedian
Ted McGinley
Warren Sapp, NFL Champ
Misty May-Treanor, Olympic beach volleyball champ
Maurice Green, Olympic track champ
Last night RT and I were watching TV, and there was a commercial about “Silence Your Rooster” and that was it. No other information about what the commercial was about. Obviously it was about some type of sleep aid. So out of curiosity (which is the blatant objective of the commercial anyway) I looked it up.

“Silence Your Rooster” is an ad for Ambien CR. I’ve written about my experience with Ambien before. I would personally never take it again since I didn’t enjoy feeling like a zombie. Maybe the “CR” formulation works better than what I took a few years ago. I must say, though, that the “Silence Your Rooster” campaign is a very clever advertising tactic.
Sphere: Related ContentI am sad. I was looking at my sitemeter awhile ago, and saw that someone had Googled “Weddings in Alaska” and had ended up at my blog. I reread the post I wrote about RT’s and my wedding in Alaska in September 2006, and on impulse clicked on the link to the minister who performed our wedding ceremony. Michael Mitchell’s website was no longer there. So I Googled his name and found the following:
Michael K. Mitchell, Ph.D. lived in Anchorage, Alaska, and ran a church without walls - a wedding ministry to the greater Anchorage area. Michael Mitchell studied for the Methodist ministry, and was assistant to the senior minister for the First Methodist Church in Anchorage, Alaska for four years. He also took ministerial courses under Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller at the Crystal Cathedral in Southern California. Following this, Dr. Schuller asked Michael to be his minister on site as he instituted his Hour of Power services on 35 mm film and showed them in cinemas in Alaska (movie house churches). Michael’s PhD is in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M. After years as a “closet Catholic,” studying Catholic theology, and participating in Catholic sacraments, he was ordained a Catholic priest by Bishop Jim Burch in March 2001, and continued his extraordinary schedule of wedding ministry in the Anchorage area, complimented by his wife, Nell. Michael passed on in 2007.
Michael performed Ron’s and my wedding ceremony, and it was a profoundly meaningful service. His wife, Nell, was one of the two witnesses. I’m very sad to know that this vibrant and energetic man died last year. May he rest in peace.
Sphere: Related ContentAn Egyptian woman has given birth to septuplets. That’s SEVEN babies, and the births are being described as a miracle because the 27-year old mother had not taken any fertility drugs. Well, according to one source she didn’t take any “stimulants during ovulation.” According to another source, she did.

The four boys and three girls were delivered via C-section six week before their due date. One report put the babies between 4.4. and 6.6 pounds EACH. Another report put them between 3.2 and 6.17 pounds each. Now just think of that! Regardless of which report is correct, that’s over THIRTY POUNDS of babies - at a minimum.
According to this report, the woman, Ghazala Khamis, used fertility drugs in order to have a boy after already having three girls. I’d say she definitely got her boy - with a few extras of each thrown into the mix.
Whether she or didn’t use fertility drugs, we still wish her and her family the best.
Sphere: Related ContentIt looks like the Bigfoot hoopla is settled. The first of two DNA samples submitted came from a human - and the other was “96% opossum.”
So the DNA results failed to prove its existence. Is anyone surprised? That had to be the fakiest “news conference” I’ve ever seen.
The results were given by Curt Nelson, a scientist at the University of Minnesota who performed the DNA analysis.
Sphere: Related ContentResults of the DNA tests were revealed in an e-mail from Nelson and distributed at the Palo Alto, California, news conference held by Tom Biscardi, host of a weekly online radio show about the Bigfoot.
Also present were Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, the two who say they discovered the Bigfoot corpse while hiking in the woods of northern Georgia. They also are co-owners of a company that offers Bigfoot merchandise.
Despite the dubious photo and the commercial interests of the alleged discoverers, the Bigfoot claim drew interest from Australia to Europe and even The New York Times.
Biscardi said the DNA samples may not have been taken correctly and may have been contaminated, and that he would proceed with an autopsy of the alleged Bigfoot remains, currently in a freezer at an undisclosed location.
According to sources, Paul Newman has gone home to die. Read the story and see photos and video below.
Actor Paul Newman’s battle with cancer is coming to and end soon. The Oscar winner left the hospital last week and has chosen to die at home with his family and friends.
From earlier this summer: A friend of Paul Newman’s has confirmed that he has cancer. That makes me sad. Paul Newman has always been one of my favorite actors. “Cool Hand Luke,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” are just two of the wonderful movies that he made.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)Paul Newman, the legendary actor and philanthropist, is battling cancer, his longtime neighbor and business partner said Wednesday. Newman, 83, has recently appeared gaunt in photos, and dropped plans to direct a play in his Connecticut hometown.
Writer A.E. Hotchner, who partnered with Newman to start Newman’s Own salad dressing company in the 1980s, said the actor told him about the disease about 18 months ago. He did not specify what kind of cancer, but said Newman is in active treatment.
“I know that it’s a form of cancer,” Hotchner told The Associated Press. “It’s a form of cancer and he’s dealing with it.”
Newman issued a statement late Tuesday that he’s “doing nicely” but didn’t specifically address questions about cancer. A call was placed to his spokesman Wednesday seeking comment.
