Update: 8/8/08. Edwards has admitted the affair today. He says the affair is ended and the baby isn’t his. However, he also admitted he was the person the Enquirer folks caught in the story below. If the affair is ended and the baby isn’t his, why is he visiting Rielle Hunter in the middle of the night at a hotel. What a disgusting man.
Does John Edwards have a “love child”? See photos and video here. The term “love child” always amuses me. Usually the child is the result of lust - not love. However, the current rumor mill has it that John Edwards was caught today with his mistress and the love child.

Vice Presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards was caught visiting his mistress and secret love child at 2:40 this morning in a Los Angeles hotel by the NATIONAL ENQUIRER.
The married ex-senator from North Carolina - whose wife Elizabeth continues to battle cancer — met with his mistress, blonde divorcee Rielle Hunter, at the Beverly Hilton on Monday night, July 21 - and the NATIONAL ENQUIRER was there! He didn’t leave until early the next morning.
Rielle had driven to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara with a male friend for the rendezvous with Edwards. The former senator attended a press event Monday afternoon with L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on the topic of how to combat homelessness.
But a months-long NATIONAL ENQUIRER investigation had yielded information that Rielle and Edwards, 54, had arranged to secretly meet afterward and for the ex-senator to spend some time with both his mistress and the love child who he refuses to publicly acknowledge as his own.
I guess eventually we’ll find out the truth. John Edwards is such a pretty boy politician that it wouldn’t surprise me. However, the report is coming from The National Enquirer. So we will wait for further information.

It wouldn’t surpise me if it turned out to be true (and it’s looking more like it is). Edwards has been a megalomaniacal slimeball in an expensive suit for a long, long time.

Is John Edward’s private life that important ? Is this story a Republican Smear Campaign ? Politics and the media are are just brutal. Amazingly, as things were going so well for Barack Obama, all of a sudden this story hits the wire. Conspiracy or Fact ?

I don’t care about John Edward’s private life except for the fact that he put himself under public scrutiny by running for POTUS and by talking about family values. He’s a hypocrite and a self-absorbed lowlife. A Republican smear campaign? No smear to it. We’ll wait for the facts to come out, and if it is true, then John Edwards will have the face the music of public opinion and, even worse, his own family.
