A sociopath is a person with “little or no regard for the feelings or welfare of others.” If we use that definition alone, then both John Edwards and Bill Clinton fit the profile. There are, of course, other aspects of the condition that don’t fit the two men. However, in terms of their respective infidelities and subsequent lies without regard to the women involved, they showed absolutely no regard for the feelings or welfare of Monica Lewinski or Rielle Hunter - women they were eager to exploit when they felt they were invincible and could do anything they wanted without consequences.

As we know, Bill Clinton sullied the dignity of the Oval Office with his affair, and then he allowed Monica Lewinski to be vilified and humiliated repeatedly in public by lying and denying the truth. He further disgraced the office of POTUS by lying under oath. Pure sociopathic behavior - not caring about how any of this affected his victim - just concerned for himself.

I’ve never been a John Edwards’ fan. He comes off as slimey and conniving to me. When I heard his interview with ABC last night and read his statement, my feelings were confirmed. In his statement he hastened to say he never lovd Rielle Hunter. I guess he said that because he thought it would make his wife feel better about his infidelity. It’s a bad situation for his family regardless of what he says, but to know that he’d have meaningless and loveless sex wouldn’t really be very reassuring to his wife, in my opinion. And it would certainly make her question the character of the man she married that he would hold his marital vows in such low regard.

So saying he never loved Hunter was his first slam. The entire statement of whether or not he loved her should never have been uttered. It was unnecessary - and it only served to make him every creepier. Then to say that he wasn’t the father of the child was to further slam her as a woman sleeping with at least two men almost simultaneously. He is obviously - with Elizabeth Edwards’ cooperation - trying to show that he’d never continue an affair after his wife’s condition deteriorated to “uncurable.” His appearance and behavior at the L.A. hotel last month negates that particular assertion of his.

My sympathies go to Elizabeth Edwards and her children. However, I would like to see her stop the supportive crap and tell the world what a scum her husband is. She wrote that she is “proud of her husband’s honesty in the face of shame.” Oh PUHLEASE! It is virtually certain he is still lying. I’d have a lot more respect for a woman who makes her husband accountable for his behavior rather than covering up for him.
