Our daughter, Stinkeroo, was sick last week. She woke up one morning, and her right eye and the right side of her face hurt. She looked in the mirror and saw that her face was swollen - and it hurt! She went to the doctor who said it might be a sinus infection. Sinus infection? She’d had those before and it didn’t have anything to do with her eye. The doctor said it was possibly an eye socket infection. He gave her a shot of antibiotics along with a prescription for antibiotics. If she wasn’t better by the next day, he wanted to do a CAT scan.
Stinkeroo stayed home from work for two days. She’s the CEO - she could handle the business from home for a couple days. The first afternoon - the day she got the shot and started antibiotics - I went over to see her for myself. Her eye was almost swollen shut. She looked pitiful. After her medical concerns this past June & July, thoughts of tumors and cancers went through my mind. This problem was on the same side of her body as the earlier problem. However, I kept telling myself, “It’s just an infection of some kind.”
The next day, I drove the girls home after school. On the way, Sweet Stuff and Sunshine wondered aloud about whether or not their mommy would be feeling better and if her face would look better. The girls adore their mommy, and they were very concerned for her.
Stinkeroo had stayed home all day - in her pajamas - watching TV and relaxing - hoping the antibiotics were taking care of the infection, and that the swelling and pain would subside. As soon as I saw her, I breathed a sigh of relief. No noticeable swelling remained. There was still a little swelling there, but had I not known about it, I wouldn’t have noticed it.
When the girls saw her, they immediately looked at her face carefully - then hugged and kissed her.
Sweet Stuff - our little fashionista - looked her over and said, matter-of-factly, “You look so much better!” Then, taking in the disheveled nature of her mommy’s hair, she continued, “If you fixed your hair, you’d look even better.” With that, she ran outside to play with Sunshine.
Stinkeroo and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.

Sure wish I could have been there today, too. I know the food was great. Sweet Stuff cracks me up all the time - and same with Sunshine. I’m so glad that the last corrections have been done to RR&R. I can’t wait to see the published copy. Autograph one for me - for for both my kids.
