Friday’s Feast (My Edition #7)

Appetizer - Have you been sick yet this winter? If so, what did you come down with?

I’m sick right now - I think it may be strep - although I’m not running a fever - I have a sore throat, swollen and sore glands and headache and body aches.  I’ll go to the doctor and get a throat culture on Friday.  It’s the first year in a long time that I haven’t had a flu shot.  I wonder if it’s the flu?

Soup - What colors dominate your closet?

greens and blues and pinks - love them all.  I have a lot of black, too.

Salad - How would you describe your personal “comfort zone”?

My comfort zone is around my family.  That’s what I enjoy most and where I feel  most comfortable.

Main Course - On which reality show would you really like to be a contestant?

The Amazing Race.  There is some skill involved, and I’d love to do the traveling - although it would be condensed into such a small time frame there wouldn’t be much time to enjoy it.

Dessert - Which holiday would you consider to be your favorite?

Christmas - withouth a doubt.  I love all the traditions surrounding Christmas.

Appetizer
What was one of the fashion fads when you were a teenager?

That was during the 60’s, and madras shirts and skirts were quite the rage.  It had to be authentic BLEEDING madras, too.  Another fad was that guys always wore socks that matched their shirts.  Light blue shirt? Then light blue socks.

Soup
Name one thing you think people assume about you when they first meet you.

People always assume I’m quiet and shy.  I guess I am sometimes when I first meet people, but when I’m comfortable around a group of people, I’m not shy, although I do tend to be quiet.

Salad
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how hard do you work?

Oh dear - I think I don’t work nearly as hard as I should.  Sometimes I’m a 9 or 10, but other times I’m a 2 or 3.  I probably average around a 5 or 6.  I don’t wear myself out very often.

Main Course
If you were given a free 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl to sell anything you currently own, what would you advertise?

My old engagement/wedding ring set.  It’s really nice, and I keep thinking that I need to sell it on eBay or get money out of it somehow.  It’s not doing anybody any good sitting in a box in the closet.  I’ve tried to block that year-long marriage/mistake out of my mind.  So maybe that’s why I haven’t gotten around to selling it yet.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I love to _sleep late___ when it is __Saturday morning____.

If you could take lessons to learn any musical instrument, which would you want to learn?

The piano.  I can play it a little, but I wish that I could play it well.  Our pastor’s wife plays the piano at church, and she can really rock out on some of the gospel hymns, and I just love it.

Soup
Have you ever mistaken a person for someone else?

Yes - can’t think of a specific example, but I know it has happened before.

Salad
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how well do you keep secrets?

10 - I’m very good at keeping confidences - as long as the person tells me that whatever they’re telling me is confidential.  In my work, trust and confidentiality are important.

Main Course
What’s the closest you’ve ever been to a dangerous animal?

I don’t recall ever being close to a dangerous animal.  Well, once on a hike in the Smoky Mountains, I saw a copperhead snake.  It was a few feet away from me.

Dessert
When was the last time you lost your patience?

Yesterday at the doctor’s office when, yet again, I had to deal with the issue of my name.  Since I recently married and I haven’t received my new insurance card yet, the name on my insurance card (Mary Smith- my first name and my maiden name) is completely different than the name I go by (Carol Jones - my middle name and my married name).  The receptionist in the doctor’s office could not understand, and it literally took me about twenty minutes to work with her (checking documents, making phone calls) to get her records straight - and EVEN THEN, she acted like I was a criminal trying to get away with something.  At one point when she said she was going to HAVE to put all my records in the name on my card, I actually said, “Just call me whatever.”  Yes, I’m ashamed to admit I used the word “whatever” like that.  When you name your child, don’t EVER go by the middle name!

I can’t believe another Friday has rolled around, and it’s time for another Friday’s Feast. Be sure and check out the other Friday’s Feasts HERE. Here goes:

Appetizer
Which television shows do you just refuse to miss?

I love “Amazing Race.” My husband says he doesn’t see the interest in watching people rush around all over the world, but I like it anyway.

Soup
Who did you last speak to on the telephone?

My mother last night. Most any other time I would be asked that question, it would be my daughter, though. I talk to her on the phone just about every day.

Salad
How many pillows do you keep on your bed?

I use one pillow for sleeping, but when the bed is made up, there are four pillows on it.

Main Course
Name one addition to your computer (software, hardware, etc.) that you’d love to have.

A wireless laptop.

Dessert
What is your favorite foreign food?

Italian food - love it!

Appetizer
What comes to mind when you see the color orange?

Being a Tennessee girl, I think of the Tennessee Volunteers.  GO BIG ORANGE!

Soup
Did you ever get in trouble while you were in school? If so, what was it for?

No, I was too afraid of getting into trouble.  I was a major apple polisher.

Salad
Which topping(s) make up your perfect pizza?

Mozarella cheese, fresh chopped tomatoes, bell peppers and onions.  I don’t like meat of any kind on a pizza.

Main Course
Do you believe in UFOs/aliens/etc.? Why or why not?

Well there are illegal aliens - and they certainly exist.  I really don’t know about aliens from other places in outer space.  It’s possible, I guess.

Dessert
What color is your bedspread/comforter/quilt?

Right now it’s a navy/cream/white quilt - quite pretty.  However, my favorite quilt has lots of smokey green in it  I love quilts, and when we get our new house finished, all the beds will have quilts on them.

Friday’s Feast (My 2nd One!)

Appetizer
Which celebrity (or celebrities) do you think will make headlines this year?

I think Brittney Spears will continue in the spotlight for awhile.  She seems bent on self-destruction.  Hopefully she’ll gain a little maturity soon.  And Brangelina - they have such an obvious need to be in the limelight for their self-proclaimed humanitarian deeds.

Soup
They say that good things come in small packages? What is something little that you think is great?

This is an easy one for me.  My two little grandgirls!  Can’t get any better than those two!

Salad
Name a song that makes you want to dance.

I was driving to and from Georgia to visit my mother earlier this week, and both ways, I listened to Peabo Bryson singing “If Ever I’m In Your Arms Again.”  Wait!  That was more of a sing-along song rather than dance-along.  I was belting it out as I drove.  But dance-along?  Whenever I hear Elton John sing “Blessed” I want to do the rhumba.  Great song!

BLESSED  by Elton John

Hey you, you’re a child in my head
You haven’t walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you’ll be blessed

I know you’re still just a dream
your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I’ve ever seen
Anyway you’ll be blessed

And you, you’ll be blessed
You’ll have the best
I promise you that
I’ll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You’ll be blessed

I need you before I’m too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you’re blessed

Main Course
What is your favorite font?

I use “Comic Sans” most of the time because I’m a teacher and it’s an easy font to read.

Dessert
If you were to write a do-it-yourself article, what would it be about?

I’ve thought I should write about how to handle being newly divorced - how to get out and meet people and have fun rather than staying at home and brooding.  Now that I’ve re-married my first ex, I think I could write an article about how to make marriage work the second time around with the same spouse.
