Skewed Priorities: Smoking Cessation Research to get $75 million

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Doesn’t it warm your heart that part of Obama’s economic “stimulus” package includes $75 million for smoking cessation research?

I’m still looking to see how much is being given to fund CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH.

So while we have thousands of children suffering through painful and grueling treatment for cancer, we are spending tax money on things such as:

$75 million for smoking cessation research

Amtrak gets $1 billion (Amtrak hasn’t turned a profit in 40 years!)

$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts

$650 million (in addition to the billions already doled out) for digital TV conversion coupons.

$600 million for the federal government to BUY NEW CARS!

$7 BILLION to “modernize” federal buildings and facilities.

$150 for the Smithsonian. I’m wondering how that will stimulate the economy?

I think President Obama and every single United States Senator and Representative should be required to spend a day with a child who is battling childhood cancer.

There’s Lily - who two month ago was running and playing with her friends. Then she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia on December 1, 2008. Now she spends her days going to physical thereapy because she has trouble walking - will likely need leg braces soon. She can’t run or skip - not because she doesn’t want to. She is physically unable to.

She actually is cancer-free right now. However, in order to KEEP her cancer-free, she must continue to endure chemotherapy for more than two more years. And the poisonous chemotherapy is what is causing these horrible side effects. We are POISONING our children because we HAVE to in order to give them a chance at living. There has to be a more humane way to successfully treat cancer in children.

These are our CHILDREN. Our FUTURE. They never smoked a cigarette. They don’t want a new car. They could care less if our federal buildings are “modernized.” All they want is to be able to live a “normal” life - to go to school, to be with their friends, to ride a bike, to run and skip. It is a national disgrace that we are not POURING federal funds into finding a cure for childhood cancers.

It’s true that you can tell a lot about a civilization by the way it treats its most vulnerable members. And our federal government is abysmally failing the test of being “civilized.”

A lack of writing, politics and weariness

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Why have there not been any new posts at THE MEDIAN SIB lately? I’ve been asked that question several times lately. Even my daughter noticed that it has been almost two weeks since I last put up a new post.

I’m tired of politics. I guess I could write about other things, but I don’t have the interest right now. I read and watch the news, and I’m absolutely disgusted with the way that the liberals, in general, have attacked both McCain and Palin. I am absolutely disgusted with the liberal spin the MSM puts on any story.

Obama’s campaign preemptively claims racism regardless of what McCain or Palin say or do. It’s a tactic that works because it silences their opposition, makes their own constituents eager to jump on the racism accusation train. After all, if you accuse someone else of racism, it makes you seem so . . . uh . . . un-racist. Question Obama’s numerous shady associates and friends? You’re racist. Question Obama’s stand on abortion? You’re racist. Don’t like Obama for any reason whatsoever? You’re racist. Mention that Obama’s only significant accomplishment in his brief tenure as a U.S. Senator is running for POTUS, and you’re a racist. Simply BE for the McCain/Palin ticket? You’re a racist. I can’t even count the number of articles I’ve read from liberal media about how if Obama loses, it will show how racist the country is.

Obama’s long-term association with Jeremiah Wright and the Trinity United Church of Christ - the epitome of racial intolerance and psuedo-Christian theology - is the elephant in the room that is stomping around and knocking people around, but no one can talk about it. The Obama campaign has effectively silenced the oppositiion because to question it would result in charges of racism.

Most of the Clinton supporters have apparently forgotten that both Hillary and Bill Clinton were accused by the Obama campaign of being racist during the primaries. Of course, no one would dare categorize the racist charges as “negative” advertising. That would be racist.

I am thoroughly disgusted with both the Democratic party and the liberal media. No rational thinking person with anything but the most radical liberal beliefs could possibly support Obama based on his record, his beliefs and/or policies. However, Obama is young, he’s well-spoken, he’s charismatic, he’s Democratic, and he’s black. He is on his way to becoming our next President - and it will be a sad day for our country, and for our Constitution if that happens.

As I make my rounds of lefty blogs, I see the people who will vote for any candidate that has “D” after his/her name. An objective, independent thought never enters their head. I think some people have themselves so thoroughly aligned to the Democratic party emotionally - from the days when the Democratic party actually had some ethics - that they can’t even consider not voting for the Democratic candidate - even when that candidate poses grave danger to the very founding principles of our country. Every absurd spin of the liberal media gains full acceptance and endorsement. So they put their ethics and principles aside, buy into the liberal talking points and support a candidate that is the antithesis of what our country was founded on.

The Democratic party and the liberal media have done a very good job of characterizing any conservative as a Bible-thumping, irrational , gun-toting, hysterical and uneducated country bumpkin.

One of the more hilarious comments recently on this blog was an Obama supporter explaining in patronizing terms (along with numerous misspellings and incorrect grammar) how, as the country becomes more educated, the Democratic party gains ground because Democrats are logical - whereas Republicans are ruled by their emotions and their fear of gays and anger about abortion. The commenter went on to explain just how ignorant and irrational Republicans are. No one takes such an idiot seriously. He/she was just parroting the Democratic talking points.

Last week an Obama supporter claimed that someone yelled “Kill him!” when Sarah Palin mentioned Obama in a speech. Did the liberal media or Obama camp check the story? No, it was something negative about the McCain campaign, and so they ran with it. Obama himself even brought it up in the last presidential debate. And millions of people still believe it - even after the incident was proven not to have happened at all. I certainly won’t hold my breath waiting for the media to demand an apology from Obama . . . or even mention that it was simply a trumped up story by an Obamabot.

The Democratic party and liberal media have “accepted” that John McCain is running a negative campaign. We hear it all the time. Meanwhile they are running the worst of negative campaigns and going ruthlessly after anyone who questions Obama. The perfect example is that of “Joe the Plumber” whose tax and divorce records have been scrutinized meticulously by media - the same media that can’t be bothered to check into the tax records of Obama’s own treasurer. The double standard and media bias is breath-taking. However, I don’t think it will go un-noted.

My belief is that grass roots Americans will see this liberal spin and intimidation for what it is, and when they enter the voting booth on November 4th, they’ll vote for McCain-Palin in significant numbers to prove once again that the hysterical and mean-spirited left is out of touch with both America and reality.

Gianna Jessen, Abortion Survivor

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Gianna Jessen was on Hannity and Colmes tonight. Gianna Jessen is the real thing. I actually have a connection with her, and I’ve met her in person. She has been in the news before on the abortion issue. I’ve got three videos for you. The first two are of a speech that she gave in Australia just a week ago. The third is of her appearance on Hannity and Colmes tonight. Is it just me, or was Colmes really obnoxious to her?

Gianna Jessen’s story comes down to the fact that it isn’t about a woman’s “right to choose.” When a woman “chooses” to have an abortion, there is no consideration for the baby’s choice. It is the killing of an innocent life. It is documented to be painful for the baby. Out of sight - out of mind. It’s not a women’s issue. Watch and listen to the video. The business of abortion is a major money maker. Making it part of the so-called women’s movement just masks what is really going on.

Sometimes I feel badly for people who are so indoctrinated with the leftist talking points that they can’t see the absolute moral corruption of their political beliefs. They talk about how horrible abortion is and how it’s such a difficult decision to make and how they want to make it so that there aren’t so many abortions - but then they say that it must be a personal decision, and they can’t legislate a woman’s personal choice. That’s simply bullshit. Apparently, however, that’s the only way they can try to justify to themselves supporting such an immoral practice.

Pamela Anderson vs. Sarah Palin

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

The irrationality of the “pro-choice” folks always amuses me - especially vapid celebrities like Pamela Anderson. To them, since they can’t “see” unborn babies, the babies are only “fetuses.” They lack the ability to visualize the living, formed baby just a few inches beneath the surface.

Thanks for Darleen for this cartoon that perfectly depicts what an idiot Pamela Anderson is.

SNL Sarah Palin Skit (Video)

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I saw the SNL skit on the news this morning, and so I went looking for the entire thing. Of course, it has to get in some jabs at Sarah Palin, but all in all, I think it’s pretty funny. It gets in a couple of good jabs at Hillary Clinton, too. Tina Fey portrays Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler portrays Hillary Clinton.

John McCain’s Speech at the RNC

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

All I can say is “WOW!” John McCain and Sarah Palin are in this to win! When John McCain finished his speech tonight, RT and I actually applauded. Here in our home by ourselves. “STAND UP!”

Here’s a brief excerpt from McCain’s speech:

Cindy McCain

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Cindy McCain could very well be the next First Lady of the United States. See photos, her brief biography and a video of Cindy McCain below.

As I watched Cindy McCain speak at the Republican National Convention, I was impressed with her sincerity, her depth of character and her spirit of adventure. Her father started from scratch and was able to live the American dream and make his daughter a very wealthy woman. Rather than sit back and live the life of luxury, Cindy McCain has dedicated her life to doing what she can to ease life for people around the world who are struggling with overwhelming challenges.

Cindy Lou Hensley was born on May 20, 1954, in Phoenix, Arizona to James and Marguerite “Smitty” Hensley. In 1955 James and Smitty sold all they had and scraped together $10,000 to start a beer distributororship which became the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship in the United States.

Today Cindy McCain is a businessperson and a philanthropist. She founded and ran the American Voluntary Medical Team from 1988 to 1995. The American Voluntary Medical Team organizes trips by doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to third-world areas around the world that are struck by disasters or war. Even as she is busy on the campaign trail, she still is active as a philanathropist and continues to serve on the boards of several charitable organizations.

Cindy McCain received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Masters degree in special education from the University of Southern California. While there, she participated in a movement therapy pilot program that paved the way for treatment for children with severe disabilities.

At first she declined working in the family business, and instead she began teaching - working with children with Down Syndrome and other disabilities.

Cindy McCain is a woman who has used her resources - both physical and monetary - to help people of all races and religions. She is the real deal.

I Love Piper Palin

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Did you see Piper Palin holding baby Trig during Sarah Palin’s speech tonight? Here’s the video. At one point, Piper licked her palm and then smoothed down Trig’s hair. Then later the camera showed her stroking his face. Absolutely tender!

CNN’s Campbell Brown shrieks

Monday, September 1st, 2008

It is almost comical to watch Campbell Brown “interview” anyone from the Republican party about Sarah Palin. She gets so over-wrought that she literally shrieks at them. She simply can’t stand that fact that John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his VP choice.

Campbell Brown
Campbell Brown - Shrieks at Republicans

I watched her a couple days ago and was appalled at her unprofessional behavior. Then, lo and behold, she did the same thing awhile ago. By the end of the segment, she composed herself and tried to end things a semblance of civility. However, she’d already blown any attempt at being objective. I’ve completely lost any trace of respect I might have had for CNN and especially for Campbell Brown.

CNN “commentators” upset about Sarah Palin

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I’m embarrassed to admit that RT and I watch CNN a lot. They’re so blatantly biased towards leftist politics, but usually they try to keep a semblance of objectivity, and so we continue to watch. It’s just a habit - and definitely one we need to kick.

Today has been an eye-opening experience. David Gergen and other “commentators” just can’t handle the fact that John McCain has selected Sarah Palin as his VP nominee. Anderson Cooper is the only one that seems to be able to maintain a sense of objectivity. Roland Martin was his usual verbose self - just tut-tut-tutting his way through his comments. And Campbell Brown (is that her name?) literally shrieked - repeatedly - at a Republican spokesperson who dared to argue that Sarah Palin is more qualified to be Vice President than Barack Obama is to be President. Truly, she was yelling. It was incredible.

Jack Cafferty was rendered virutally incoherent with his emotions, and James Carville was hilarious. He just couldn’t contain his fear which he cloaked in an act of incredulity at McCain’s choice. Last night the dems were convinced they were invincible. And suddenly John McCain throws them this curve-ball of Sarah Palin who can totally whip Obama’s ass in what she has accomplished in her few years of public service. While Obama’s been talking, Palin’s being actually acting on her words to her constituents.

The temple of Obama was front and center last night, and today it was like yesterday’s “Where were YOU when Barack Obama accepted the nomination” hadn’t happened.

I wrote a post about Sarah Palin back in April of this year. Ever since then I’ve been hoping she’d be McCain’s pick. I was okay if he had chosen Mitt Romney, but I really really wanted him to choose Palin. When it seemed likely this morning that it would go Palin’s way, I was so excited. It was frustrating because I couldn’t be near a TV to hear McCain or Palin live. I had to wait till this evening and just see exerpts of their speeches.

Today I had over ten thousand visita to this blog - most of them as a result of Google searches about Sarah Palin - going to that post I wrote in April. Everyone’s attention has been on Sarah Palin. Wow, that had to really grate on the dem’s nerves. And I guess that explains the anger and hostility of the CNN folks.
