John Kanzius - fuel from salt water? cancer cure?

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Our dependence on foreign oil is a constant thorn in our side - in addition to being a drain on our economy. John Kanzius, an inventor from Florida, may have found a solution. He has found a way to turn salt water into fuel.’

John Kanzius

John Kanzius, 63, is a broadcast engineer who formerly owned several TV and radio stations, before retiring in Sanibel Island, Fla.

Five years ago, he was diagnosed with a severe form of leukemia, and began a quest to find a kinder, gentler way to treat the disease compared to harsh chemotherapy.

In October 2003, he had an epiphany: kill cancer with radio waves. He then devised a machine that emits radio waves in an attempt to slay cancerous cells, while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

His experiments in fighting cancer have become so successful, one physician was quoted as saying, “We could be getting close to grabbing the Holy Grail.”

But in the midst of his experiments as he was trying to take salt out of water, Kanzius discovered his machine could do what some may have thought was impossible: turning water into fuel.

“On our way to try to do desalinization, we came up with something that burns, and it looks in this case that salt water perhaps could be used as a fuel to replace the carbon footsteps that we’ve been using all these years, i.e., fossil fuels,” Kanzius said.

If it’s for real, the possible ramifications of the discovery are almost mind-boggling, as cars could be fueled by salt water instead of gasoline, hydroelectric plants could be built along the shore, and homes could be heated without worrying about supplies of oil.

“It doesn’t have to be ocean salt water,” Kanzius said. “It burns just as well when we add salt to tap water.”

Kanzius has partnered with Charles Rutkowski, general manager of Industrial Sales and Manufacturing, a Millcreek, Pa., company that builds the radio-wave generators.

“I’ve done this [burning experiment] countless times and it still amazes me,” Rutkowski told the Erie Times-News. “Here we are paying $3 a gallon for gas, and this is a device that seems to turn salt water into an alternative fuel.”

Kanzius has been told it’s actually hydrogen that’s burning, as his machine generates enough heat to break down the chemical bond between hydrogen and oxygen that makes up water.

Laptops versus pen & paper

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Laptops in classI was at Teachers College of Columbia University in NYC this past week for their February Institute for teachers.  When I was packing for the trip, I had my laptop in its carrying bag and ready to go when I decided that I didn’t want to deal with a laptop in the airport or have to carry it with me everywhere - especially since the room where we would be staying didn’t have internet access.  So I left my laptop at home.  I would take notes the old fashioned way - with pen and paper.

I found it fascinating, though, to see the number of laptops in the sessions I attended.  “School” has sure changed since the last time I took a university class four years ago.  Laptops were everywhere, and I watched as other students took notes, created charts and otherwise used their laptops efficiently and effectively to organize and save the information from each class session.   More than once I wished that I had brought my own laptop so I could make my notes more complete.

One laptop user sat beside me during one session and glanced over at my notebook in which I was writing my notes by hand.  “Does that really work for you?” she asked me skeptically.

Are you protected against IDENTITY THEFT?

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Identity Theft is a scary thing, and it can happen to anybody.  I’m almost paranoid about looking around me when I’m using a credit card in a store, and I wonder about the security of using one when I shop online.  Your identity can be stolen by someone in the most innocent seeming circumtances.  Then, if it happens, you can spend literally hundreds of hours AND hundreds of dollars cleaning up the mess that the identity thieves left you.  And it’s hard to get back your good name after it has been trashed by the thieves.   I didn’t realize that most identity theft victims don’t discover the theft until after their stolen identity has been used many times, and after they’ve been turned down for a loan or a collection agency starts calling.

Have you seen or heard the commercial where the president of a company that offers identity theft protection, gives out his social security number because he is so confident that his identity is protected?  I heard it just recently and found that the company is Lifelock, and they guarantee their service up to a million bucks, and it’s only ten dollars a month.  That’s sounds like a good deal to me for peace of mind.

Pay-Per-Play - Hurry and Get it by February 1st

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

The year 2008 is being called the “Year of Social Media.”  That means that this is the year when social networking online will grow more than at any previous time.  I want to be a part of that growth.  I have a dream of being able to monetize my blog to the point that I’m able to retire early.   However, I don’t want the monetization to affect the quality of my blog.  It’s a big dream, but it’s do-able.  The accomplishment of my dream depends on if I’m willing to work to find the appropriate means of accomplishment my goal.

I found Pay-Per-Play which is part of Net Audio Ads.   I’ll give you a quick description, but you can click the link to find out more.  One piece of advice:  You need to sign up for Pay-Per-Play by February 1st in order to receive maximum benefits.  I’ve signed up for it, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works.

Pay-Per-Play is a way to get paid for every visitor to your website.  Your visitors don’t have to click a link in order for you to get credit for their visits.  When someone visits your site, they will hear a 5-second audio ad.  So far 108 million sites have joined.  Pay-Per-Play has been a successful addiliate program for awhile.  Starting February 1st, it will convert to a “host only” model.  that means that you will make money only on the ads placed on your own site.  Any site that signs up now for the AudioAdHosting program now will be able to continue with the affiliate revenue after the February 1st change.

The program has three tiers:  In the first tier, you be paid for ads on your site.  At tier two, you will be paid on ads served on the websites that you personally refer, and at tier three you’ll be paid for ads on the websites of those that your direct referrals refer.  That’s why, if you want to maximize your blog’s revenue, you should register for the FREE affiliate program before February 1st.
