It looks like Obama’s “Fight The Smears” folks are busily spreading their own smears. I guess Obama’s talk about what a positive campaign he’s running was just that - all talk. From LGF:
Suddenly appearing among the Google search results for ’sarah palin gay,’ a web site titled: Sarah Palin Supports Gay Rights.
Sarah Palin (GOV-Alaska-Republican), supports gay rights, says Anchorage Daily News.
Quote “Gov. Sarah Palin vetoed a bill Thursday that sought to block the state from giving public employee benefits such as health insurance to same-sex couples.”
Quote “”It is the Governor’s intention to work with the legislature and to give the people of Alaska an opportunity to express their wishes and intentions whether these benefits should continue,” the statement from Palin’s administration said.”Coghill said he’s interested in a new plan that would allow state employees to designate one person †maybe a same-sex partner, but also possibly a family member or roommate †who would be eligible for state-paid benefits. But the employee would have to pay to add that person to his or her benefits.”
Sarah Palin’s veto gave gays the same rights as married couples in Alaska.
A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for gay marriage.
Interesting. There’s nothing else on the page. This sure looks like the work of the dastardly right-wing anti-gay attack machine, doesn’t it?
But look who’s really behind this.
In the Linux console, if you enter the following commands, you can learn the secrets of a political dirty trick. First, look up the host of sarahpalingayrights.com to get the site’s IP address.
host sarahpalingayrights.com
sarahpalingayrights.com has address 74.208.74.232Then use the same command to look up the domain name pointer of that IP address.
host 74.208.74.232
232.74.208.74.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer obamadefense.comWell, well. Obamadefense.com, eh?
And what happens if you enter obamadefense.com on your browser’s address line?
Why, you’re redirected to none other than FightTheSmears.com, the official Barack Obama site that’s supposed to be defending him against smears.
Looks like they may have a second purpose: to generate a few smears of their own.
And not only is the Obama campaign doing the smearing, but they obviously are inept when it comes to using the internet.

I didn’t know that supporting equality could be turned into a smear, unless, of course, the target audience doesn’t support equality.

“but they obviously are inept when it comes to using the internet.”
I think you mean “internets”! This new techtaminology won’t flummox o’l Johnny McCain! Nosiree Bob! While Mr. O’bama is busy scootin’ & skaddlin’ on one of the internets, McCain will be scootin’ & skaddlin’ on all the others! He-he-he! 23 skidoo and Palin, too!

As a gay married(CA) man and voting democratic in Nov., I have to say John McCains pick was inspired…or crazy. We will know in the next 2 weeks. I love the choice, even though I would disagree with Mrs. Palin on many isssues. I find her place the republican ticket exciting, either way it goes, we americans are making history this election year.

I apologize to at least one (and possibly two) commenters on this post whose comments were inadvertently deleted. The touch pad on my laptop is sometimes way too sensitive.

Somebody should go check the update to this:

There is no link between these sites and the Obama campaign.

Although LGF retracted the comment, more information has been coming out about this. So please follow the link in the previous comment and read what it has to say. However, Sarah Palin is being smeared and treated abysmally by many on the left, and I hope we find out where these attacks are coming from.

Most “conservatives” support rights for everyone, including people of Homosexual orientation. The Gay, Lesbian,Bi-Sexaul and Transgender activists continue to lobby demanding that all society, schools and churches place its stamp of approval and celebration on any and all of their behavior.
Of course, Palin and all people of good will, want all our citizens, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation etc to have a right to select the person of their choice to be their beneficiary

Thank you, Ruth. You are exactly right. The left has painted conservatives as these sexist, racist, homophobes in order to garner support for their agendas. I’m sure there are a few right-wing folks who fit that stereotype. However, there are also those on the left who fit opposing extremist stereotypes. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s 20-year associate and “mentor,” is oone who comes to mind. He preaches hate for whites - certainly as badly as a KKK member might preach hatred of blacks. He calls himself a Christian while preaching anti-Christian sermons.

Agree with Robert–how is this a smear, or a “dirty trick”? Maybe the last sentence: “A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for gay marriage.” which no one is going to believe anyway, and to me is not a negative. The rest of it is true.
Why do you think this is the Obama campaign? Just because the user has an “obamadefense.com” registration doesn’t make it so. Next thing, you’ll be saying it was Obama himself!

Ruth and Carol - I don’t know what rock you live under but since the Reagan-era when he brought in the religious right the Republican party has been aggressively and openly anti-gay. George Bush was even recorded in a phone conversation before he was President saying he didn’t think the Republicans should be so hard on “the gays” yet he had to take anti-gay stances in order to stay in office. The religious right and Republican party has been walking on the backs of gays to gain political power for a couple of decades now. Not all Republicans are bad but those you choose to speak publicly for you are racist, sexist, homophobes.

Hello Neal. I don’t live under a rock at all. Do you? The Republican party has not been “aggressively and openly anti-gay” but it has been for no special privileges for specific groups of people. I choose McCain and Palin to speak publicly for me, and neither of them are racist, sexist or homophobes. Get your facts straight before you come in here calling people names.

Funny thing is that Palin SAID she supported equal rights for gays (although not marriage specifically). Now what do you say about this “smear.” Apparently it’s true.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Supporting equal rights is quite different from supporting gay marriage.
