Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen things THE MEDIAN SIB likes or would like to hear

1. Wow! You’ve lost weight!

2. Who’s your personal trainer? You look buff.

3. Congratulations! You’ve won the lottery! By the way, it’s now considered non-taxable income.

4. It was announced today that scientists have discovered a medicine that completely heals ALL kinds of illnesses.

5. I love you, Grandma Carol. (Actually I like to hear ANYTHING said by Sweet Stuff and Sunshine)

6. There’s a new instant transporter available now, and it will shorten the trip to visit your mother from 3+ hours to 3 minutes. Now you can drop by for an evening chat several times each week.

7. This is the mall business office, and you’ve won an unlimited shopping spree.

8. Hi, I’m finished cleaning your house now. It is spotless. You’re laundry is finished and put away. I’ll be back tomorrow to clean out the garage and attic.

9. Welcome home. I’ve prepared a delicious meal for you. No, I don’t need any help. Just rest on the sofa awhile, and I’ll let you know when it’s ready. Here’s the book you wanted to read. Would you like a glass of sweet tea while you wait for dinner?

10. We loved your book, and we’ve decided we want to publish it immediately. We anticipate a large printing. Could you start on the sequel now?

11. New flash! Muslim leaders worldwide have denounced violence and terrorism. All Muslims have made a vow of non-violence and non-aggression.

12. Your teeth are perfect - no dental work needed.

13. Will you look at that! You’re ahead of Michelle Malkin and Instapundit in the TTLB system!

Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen Questions

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Questions for Thursday

Terrell at Alone on a Limb had these thirteen questions last week. So I’m tackling them this week.

1. What is your earliest memory? Having to leave my beloved scooter (favorite toy) behind when we moved from Kentucky to Georgia because there was no room for it in the moving van. I believe I was around 4 years old at the time.
2. What was your longest hike? Probably the 8 miles that I hiked along the tundra in Alaska’s Denali Park this past summer.
3. When were you most alone? Immediately after my second divorce. I felt like such a failure - and didn’t want to be around anyone.
4. Describe a carefree moment of your life: Dancing with a guy I dated for awhile who was a wonderful dancer — whirling around the dance floor was so much fun!
5. What has been your most daring moment? Snowtubing a few years ago — taking off on a run, jumping onto the tube on my stomach and flying down the hill - almost dizzy speeds it seemed - then up the hill on the lift and soaring down on the tube - again and again. Such fun for this middle-aged lady!
6. Describe what you admire about someone you consider a personal hero/heroine: I admire President Bush because he has held firm to his beliefs amid incredible pressure from the democrats and the press.
7. What is your most interesting/outstanding talent? I love to dance and am fairly good at it - although I rarely do it anymore.
8. You have won a free seven day airfare to the destination of your choice. Where and why? I’d go to Italy because I love Italian history and culture - cuisine, too.
9. Climb aboard my time/space machine. You get one turn and must return after the equivalent of a week’s visit. Where, when, and why? I would go 25 years into the future to see what lies ahead for my children and grandchildren. I worry about what they may face. Maybe the trip will reassure me, or maybe it will terrify me. On second thought, though, it would probably be best NOT to know the future. So I’ll change my mind and say I’d like to go back to when my mother and father were young - see what their lives were like.
10. You have been appointed executor of my $10,000,000 charitable bequest. How will you use it? I’d keep a million for myself, give my two children a million each, a million to each of my six siblings, and a million to my mother. Whew! Spent THAT ten million fast!
11. What is your proudest accomplishment? It sounds cheesy, but my two children. They’re wonderful young adults. I’m incredibly proud of them and the great relationship I have with them and their respective spouses.
12. What question/assignment would you add to this meme? I’d add “What do you want to accomplish in the next year?
13. Write a seven line poem (diamante) about a person, place, or thing this meme has brought to mind. Use this form:

Waltz

Graceful Movement

Swinging, Smiling, Whirling

Keeping Time Making Memories

Circling, Rising, Falling

Happy Fun

Dance

Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen Things I’ve GOTTA Do By Monday

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things That Carol SHOULD Do Before Monday

(This will likely be the MOST boring Thursday Thirteen post ever!)

1. Go tent camping this weekend on the land where Ron and I plan to build a house

2. Attend church on Sunday

3. Babysit the grandkids for a few hours - I just enjoy being with them so much. We babysat them for awhile Wednesday evening, and it was just plain FUN! The best part was when we were sitting on the sofa, and Ron put his arm around me. Sunshine looked at him, moved his arm, cuddled against me and announced, “She’s MY Grandma Carol!”

4. Walk 1-3 miles each day.

5. Do crunches every morning - without fail!

6. Replace the burned out light bulbs throughout my house

7. Clear out my storage room - It’s a mess, but not for long

8. Take some boxes to storage

9. Buy some “for sale” signs for my house

10. Start working on a sales brochure for my house

11. Replace the shower head in my bathroom

12. Read some new blogs

13. Learn how to do trackbacks via Haloscan

THURSDAY THIRTEEN - Thirteen Reasons That Today Will Be A Good Day!

Thirteen Reasons That Today Will Be A Good Day For THE MEDIAN SIB1. At 12:10 this afternoon school will be out for Christmas.

2. At 12:11 I will be OUTTA there!

3. First stop: manicure.

4. Second stop: pedicure

5. Third stop: Hair stylist for a trim and highlighting

6. When I get home my house will look neat and wonderful because the housekeeper will be here sometime during the morning.

7. I will make dinner for PawPaw and myself tonight.

8. I have all my Christmas shopping done.

9. I am looking forward to tomorrow night when my little family will gather for our Christmas dinner and gift-exchange.

10. I’m current with thank you notes for gifts I’ve received from children at school.

11. School will be an easy-going day because there’s an assembly first thing, and then the classes will have their holiday parties. For me, that translates into no reading groups or lessons for me today.

12. Referring back to #11, that means I can catch up on paperwork that I need to do.

13. When I go to bed tonight, I will NOT have to set the alarm clock.

THURSDAY THIRTEEN

Thirteen Things about THE MEDIAN SIB

1. I’m starting my FIRST Thursday Thirteen on a Friday. I hope no one holds that against me. I didn’t want to wait until next Thursday to get started.

2. I haven’t been to the mall a single time this Christmas season.

3. I still have lots of Christmas shopping to do…maybe tomorrow.

4. I’ve thought I might make some frozen meals for my two married children to help them on those hectic evenings after work when they don’t feel like preparing a meal. Just a thought - I don’t know if they’d really like that for a Christmas gift or not. I’ll have to decide soon.

5. A friend told me the other night that she had told everyone in her family to contribute to a charity in her name - and she told them the charity she preferred. She said she felt really good about the decision and her kids were happy with it, too. I know my daughter has already bought me a gift for this year. So I can’t switch and ask for a charity donation instead. Next year, though, I’m going to ask for everyone who wants to give me a gift to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in my name instead. I like that idea.

6. I’m a teacher - a reading specialist - and we don’t get out of school until December 22nd - which is too close to Christmas!

7. However, we don’t go back to school until January 9th. So I’ll enjoy extra time off after Christmas.

8. My two granddaughters are the lights of my life. They’re 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 - and I KNOW I’d better not leave off those half years!

9. I’m glad I found the Thursday Thirteen links because this will be a good way to get to know people and to make myself THINK about what’s going on in my life.

10. I was in an all-day meeting today with other reading specialists in my county, and it was mostly a very good day. I learned a lot from one speaker, in particular.

11. I think I’ve got the best job in the world. Except for the pay, being a reading specialist is wonderful.

12. I married in 1969 and divorced in 1997. However, my ex and I are now back together again and have been working on all the issues that led to the divorce. Things look very promising for us.

13. Referring back to #12, we’re looking at house plans, and that is a lot of fun!
