Smarmy - Yes it fits!

I wrote yesterday that Anderson Cooper seems smarmy - even though I wasn’t sure of the meaning of the word.  Well, here’s the official definition - and I was right - he’s smarmy:

Main Entry: smarmy

Function: adjective

Pronunciation: ’smär-me

Etymology: smarm to gush, slobber

1 : revealing or marked by a smug, ingratiating, or false earnestness

2 : of low sleazy taste or quality - smarm·i·ly/-m&-le/ adverb - smarm·i·ness/-me-n&s/ noun

The Three Most Annoying Folks From the MSM

Some people can be annoying simply by existing.  There are three MSM folks who fit that category perfectly.  I really can’t put my finger on why two of these three bug me so much, but as soon as one of them is on TV, their annoyance factor outweighs anything they could possibly say.  I usually change the channel immediately - or if RT is enmeshed in watching it, I grab a book and read or find something else to do.  Even doing the dishes is more appealing.

Here are my nominations for the top three most annoying folks in the MSM - and what a coincidence, they’re all at CNN:  Anderson Cooper, Christiane Amanpour, and Soledad O’Brien.

Anderson is just smarmy - and I’m not even sure what the word means, but it fits him.  I can’t figure out how he got his job - he must have something major on the bigwigs at CNN.  Plus, the title of his show is so pretentious:  AC 360.  Really!  (Of course Wolf Blitzer’s “The Situation Room” isn’t any better!  And he could very well be #4 on this list.)

Christiane gave the commencement address at my daughter’s college graduation and used the opportunity to make a political rant.  I lost all respect for her at that moment.  Enjoy your left-wing vitriol, but don’t spew it at my daughter’s graduation! To be fair, though, reading the news doesn’t take a lot of intelligence, and so it might have been beyond her capabilities to come up with an appropriately encouraging and congratulatory speech.

Soledad just acts so . . . I’m not sure how to describe it, but it’s like someone playacting.  I figure she must have something on the bigwigs at CNN, too.  How else could she have gotten the job?  She acts so fake…and serious.  Like if she keeps this stern look on her face, she’ll be believable and people will take her seriously - but it’s not working.

So, what do you think?  Who would you nominate?

The news has been depressing lately.  I was driving home after having lunch with RT, my daughter, my son and my daughter-in-law awhile ago, and I was listening to the news.  It was just too much.  I changed the channel to an easy listening station.  Today even Barry Manilow singing “I Can’t Smile Without You” was welcome.

Beth at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has a post that expresses how I feel.  Sometimes I think we need a break from the conflicts in the world around us.  Sing to me, Barry.

For those who feel Israel should stop bombing Lebanon

Just go here and read.  The only way to stop islamic terrorism is to obliterate the terrorists.

    A Cease-Fire - Yeah right!

Sometimes - no, make that MOST times - I am appalled at the news coverage of the situation in Israel and Lebanon.  How can the MSM be so openly biased and people don’t see it for the dangerous farce it is?  And I’m also appalled at the gullible (hopefully but doubtfully) or totally self-interested (probably) reaction of many (most?) liberals and democrats.  Do they REALLY want the Islamic terrorists to prevail in the middle east?  Today while surfing some of my favorite websites, I found this cartoon at Dr. Sanity. It says it all.

  • Grief will only take Sheehan so far

I have tremendous sympathy for anyone who loses a child.  It’s a pain of unimaginable proportions.  Unfortunately, it is something that happens every day.

I admire people like John Walsh, a father who turned his grief over the murder of his young son, Adam, into a decades-long effort to help prevent other parents from going through the same hell.  There is no telling how many children’s lives have been saved because of his work.

Cindy Sheehan, on the other hand, has used her grief to further her own agenda and to work against her own country and against our own soldiers.  Now she has purchased land in Crawford, Texas so she can get more attention.  I wonder when the media will get tired of giving this pitiful excuse of a mother coverage.  Unlike John Walsh who turned his grief to better the world, Cindy has made it more dangerous.  There’s no telling how many of our soldiers - her son’s buddies - have been killed because of her mean-spirited anti-American, terrorist associations.

    Israel - Hezbollah

I admire Israel.  When they’re hit by terrorists, they fight back.  Better yet, they fight back like they mean it.  They aren’t so afraid of public opinion that they’d imprison their own soldiers based on flimsy charges or have news reporters and politicians criticizing their every move - or newspapers reporting classified information.  I wish the USA was more like that.

  • The Ant and the Grasshopper

This has been around awhile, but I still enjoy it:

OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?   Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, “It’s Not Easy Being Green.”

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, “We shall overcome.” Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake. Tom Daschle & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Brian Williams that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his “fair share.” Finally, the EEOC drafts the “Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act,” retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire an proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case. The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around him because he doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be dependent on the government to provide what you need, and you will be rewarded.  If you work hard to take care of yourself and your family, you will be unfairly taxed and vilified.

Send a Clear Message - Check out Blue Star Chronicles

Check out Blue Star Chronicles for a post entitled: Send a Clear Message.  I couldn’t write it nearly as well - and I agree with Beth 100%.  WHY is the news media not absolutely FILLED with indignation and outrage over this?

When the mutilated bodies of Tucker and Menchaca were found, the Soldiers could not immediately recover their bodies. The bodies were set up as a trap.

They had been tortured. Their eyes had been gouged out, their tongues and penises cut off. They had been mutilated and finally beheaded. They were not recognizable. DNA test have been ordered to positively identify them.

They died a horrible death in defense of their country. Doesn’t this deserve more than one day of brief news coverage?

These are OUR children - OUR soldiers.  This wasn’t done because we so-called “invaded” their country.  This was done because they are barbarians and believe that in so doing, they will weaken our resolve.  We will leave Iraq, and they can take over and continue terrorizing everyone who isn’t Muslim all over the world.

Will the MSM and the anti-war crowd continue to preach that we deserve this when it’s THEIR children and THEMSELVES who are being butchered in such a way?  This is a war that MUST be fought and MUST be won decisively.  The survival of basic human freedoms depends on it.

Hillary Clinton - Blaming Bush for Terrorism

I was reading the news online and came across this.  It told about how Hillary was booed by an ”emotional audience of party liberals” because she didn’t endorse a definite  date for troop withdrawal from Iraq - and John Kerry was cheered because he did.  Here is a quote from Hillary:

“Sometimes this is a difficult conversation, in part because this administration has made our world more dangerous than it should be,” she said.

Yea, that’s right.  The people who make the world dangerous are not the Muslims who fly planes into buildings in order to kill as many Americans as possible or who plant roadside bombs in order to kill as many Iraquis and Coalition forces as possible, and who are beheading, bombing and shooting innocents every day.  It’s Bush who is doing something to stop them.  I continue to be amazed at how some people blame Bush for anything and everything.

  • Self-Destruction - an Individual, the Left, the MSM

There are people who are self-destructive.  They cut themselves, burn themselves, criticize themselves constantly.  When they make a mistake, they make remarks like “I’m so stupid.  I never do anything right.”  Often they blame their feelings on others.  “If I had just made the cheerleading team, I’d be okay.”  “If I had won the election for student body president, I wouldn’t feel so bad about myself.”  Even when something good happens, they turn it around so that it appears negative.  And the students who DO make the cheerleading team or student body president become their worst enemies.  Those enemies are deemed stupid and dangerous.  The self-destructive person’s fear and anger is all turned inward or against the person they feel wronged them.

I think that’s what the far left and MSM is about these days, for the most part.  To them, the United States can do no right.  Our enemies can do no wrong.  They cut the United States - not realizing that they’re endangering themselves.  George Bush beat them not in one but in two elections.  Therefore, he is the enemy - stupid and dangerous.  They make wild accusations.

The average American sees the far left for what it is - self-destructive adolescents having a tantrum because they didn’t get their way - and if they didn’t get their way, then they’ll be damned if they’ll let GWB succeed.  They come up with accusations and conspiracy theories that make reasonable people shake their heads in disbelief.

It’s sometimes humorous, but ultimately sad, that they’ve pulled many well-intentioned Americans into their ridiculous web of lies.  There are enough intelligent and thoughtful people, however, who see the truth and will see that it prevails in the end.

    Death By A Thousand Cuts

All bloggers are asked to repost the following so it will get as large an audience as possible:

This is a letter written by Anthony Ippoliti, a Marine Infantryman currently serving in Fallujah, published in a local Connecticut newspaper, The Ridgefield Press:

    Jun 2, 2006
I am fortunate enough to receive The Ridgefield Press every few weeks and enjoy keeping abreast of the local issues currently pressing in our small town. I am a U.S. Marine Infantryman currently serving in Fallujah, Iraq, and my mother usually includes The Press in the many care packages she sends me.
Since we have very limited access to telephones, The Ridgefield Press is the primary means by which I receive local news.

Almost every week, I open The Press and find an article or letter to the editors denouncing the coalition effort in Iraq. Invariably, the individuals behind these anti-war letters and rallies mask their political agendas by asserting that they “support the troops but not the war.”

People like Vince Giordano, Paul Sutherland and Anne Stubbs are pictured in the April 13 edition of The Press carrying a yellow-ribboned coffin and signs that say “Bring Them Home Now.” They read off the names of the dead and claim to “show support for our troops” while urging lawmakers to “bring them home.” They believe that the U.S.-led coalition should never have entered Iraq and that the current effort is a never-ending quagmire that has made no progress. They believe that things are progressively getting worse and think that our forces should just pick up and leave.

They do all this under the pretense that they are supporting the troops. However, what they are really doing is using our lives and the issue of our safety and well-being as a means to achieve a political end.

My primary concern is the assertion that these individuals support the troops in Iraq but not our mission. It boggles my mind that this logic is actually utilized on a large scale.

Supporting the troops but not the war is like saying that you support filmmakers but not making films. One cannot claim to support an individual in a given profession but not support what the said profession entails. This is essentially a slap in the face to those in the service.

How protesting the job we are doing in Iraq while demanding our withdrawal constitutes supporting us is beyond me.

Furthermore, I am particularly interested in how these people support us, specifically. I have never once received a letter from an individual who claims to “support the troops, not the war.” Not a single Marine I know has received anything that could be considered remotely supportive from any of these people or the groups they represent. We have received phone cards, hygiene supplies, food, etc. from members of state and local government, radio stations, schools, private individuals and organizations, but never once from any group claiming to “support the troops, but not the war.”

I ask again: How can these groups claim to support our troops while telling us that what we are participating in is wrong?

How can they support us if they are essentially saying that our blood and sacrifices have all been given in vain?

How can they support us if they say that our comrades and brothers who have been wounded or killed in action have done so for a hopeless and morally questionable cause?

I reply to the questions I pose with a simple answer: They can’t. As a matter of fact, I assert with a considerable degree of confidence that their efforts make our already difficult job even more difficult. I’ll go so far as to say that their rallies and protests cost more and more servicemen their lives and limbs every day.I support my assertion with evidence gathered first hand. I see the Iraqi people every day. The protesters do not. I speak with the Iraqi people every day. The protesters do not. I don’t sit behind a desk and do paperwork or resupply efforts in the military. I am an Infantry Marine and I walk the sewage-filled streets of this city every single day.

In Fallujah, the people watch Al Jazeerah. However, they also watch CNN. A lot of them fear that the United States will soon cut and run. The people of Iraq see when our country is divided. When they see rallies to “Bring The Troops Home,” they see that as a sign that we will end our efforts prematurely.

Furthermore, they know that the insurgents will not end their efforts early. That leads them to the conclusion that when we leave, the insurgents will still be there. Therefore, if they help us, their lives and the lives of their loved ones will be in great jeopardy the minute we leave - if we don’t finish the job.

Much that they see on American television leads them to believe that we intend to abandon our efforts before the new Iraqi government is capable of defending itself and its citizens.

The actions of these aforementioned organizations and the heavy media coverage their rallies often generate serves as fuel for the insurgency. Insurgents believe they can drive us out through the idea of “death by a thousand cuts.” The longer they persist in their efforts, the more the American public becomes disenchanted with the coalition effort.

The insurgency sees this as a result. These criminals will continue to kill Iraqi civilians, Iraqi Police, Iraqi Army and coalition forces so long as they see that their efforts are alienating the American public from its military.

And for those of you that aren’t up to speed with the situation in Iraq, the insurgents attack and kill established public services (such as Iraqi police and Iraqi army) more often than they attack coalition forces. As a matter of fact, an explosive-laden insurgent blew himself up last week outside the Iraqi police station that is attached to our compound.

The insurgents aren’t fighting simply to drive America out of Iraq. They are fighting to destroy any semblance of the Iraqi government so that they can impose their will on its people.

Publicly protesting our efforts in Iraq fuels the insurgency. Doing it under the pretext of “supporting our troops” is disgraceful.

Let me now emphasize that I respect an American citizen’s right to voice his or her opinion in a public forum. Such a right is granted in the U.S. Constitution.

However, voicing one’s opinion in such an irresponsible way is something I do not support. Additionally, using deployed service members as a mask to serve your purely political purpose is downright shameful. If your desire is to protest the war, then protest the war, but don’t use me or any reference to our troops as a tool to bolster your purpose.

I’ll summarize by saying this: Organizations such as The Ridgefield Coalition to Stop the War do not support our troops. No matter what they say or what is printed on the signs they carry, they effectively do the opposite of support us. They downright hurt us.

Such organizations damage the morale of the men and women in the armed forces and progressively cause them to believe less and less in the mission at hand. The conditions here are difficult as it is. Opening a month-old edition of The Ridgefield Press and reading an article about an anti-war demonstration that uses our troops in an effort to mask its true cause doesn’t help.

Please do not feign support while effectively telling us that we are fighting for an unworthy cause. I think I speak for an overwhelming majority of our troops when I ask organizations like The Ridgefield Coalition to Stop the War to discontinue using Marines, soldiers, airmen and sailors as a means to serve a political end.

You are neither supporting us nor honoring us. You are doing the exact opposite.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Our service men and women are risking their lives daily on a noble endeavor.  Each time someone protests it adds another “cut” that undermines their efforts and our country’s integrity - and it gives our enemies encouragement.

  • Oh No! Michael Moore is not God, and “Fahrenheit 9/11″ is not THE TRUTH???

Just read a news blurb about a National Guardsman, Peter Damon, who lost both arms in a Blackhawk helicopter accident in Iraq, who is suing Michael Moore.  He is asking:

for damages because of “loss of reputation, emotional distress, embarrassment, and personal humiliation,” according to the lawsuit filed in Suffolk Superior Court last week. Damon, 33, claims that Moore never asked for his consent to use a clip from an interview Damon did with NBC’s “Nightly News.”

In his interview with NBC, Damon was asked about a new painkiller the military was using on wounded veterans. He claims in his lawsuit that the way Moore used the film clip in “Fahrenheit 9/11″ - Moore’s scathing 2004 documentary criticizing the Bush administration and the war in Iraq - makes him appear to “voice a complaint about the war effort” when he was actually complaining about “the excruciating type of pain” that comes with the injury he suffered.

“The work creates a substantially fictionalized and falsified implication as a wounded serviceman who was left behind when Plaintiff was not left behind but supported, financially and emotionally, by the active assistance of the President, the United States and his family, friends, acquaintances and community,” Damon says in his lawsuit.

I was wondering when Michael Moore would finally be exposed as a fraud.

    We cannot . . .

I can’t find who said this, but it is worth sharing:

“We cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift.

We cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

We cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

We cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

We - governments or people - cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than we have.

We cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

We cannot build character and courage by taking away initiative and independence.

We cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”

Appeasing Away Our Country and Culture

Yesterday I shared a quote by Sir Winston Churchill:

“An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last!”

    ~Sir Winston Churchill~

American is becoming the world’s biggest appeaser.  Heaven forbid that we do or say anything that might possibly make anyone feel uncomfortable or offended.  In our striving to make everyone happy, we aren’t making anyone happy - even ourselves.

It makes me sad - and scared - to see and hear people claiming that anyone who believes that people should follow estabished laws for entering our country are racist, bigoted, and anti-immigration.  Placing negative labels on people is the best way to get attention away from the real issues.  No one wants to be considered racist and bigoted and against the very thing upon which our country was built.

Even in church I hear people saying “But the illegal immigrants are just poor people coming here for a better life.  How can we deny them the opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their families?”  If so, then they should stop crossing the border in the dead of the night and getting ID’s, social security numbers and drivers licenses illegally.  Stop breaking in line - go back and do it legally.  We want you here if you can have the strength of character and perseverance to do it the right way.

To borrow from a country song, “You’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.”  We’re falling for just about everything that people are willing to shout loud enough about and make a big enough scene about .  We don’t want to feel “uncomfortable” or be accused of not being “tolerant.”  We’ve reached the point of not being willing to take a stand for anything.  Everything is all right.  We’ll tolerate any and everything.  We don’t have the courage to say that some things are simply WRONG.

Our country was founded by CHRISTIANS who came here for freedom of religion.  Recognizing our Christian heritage and celebrating it does NOT deny non-Christians their religion.  Rather, denying “In God We Trust” on our currency, in our history books and in our pledge is denying our own history.

Our country is directly threatened by radical Islam.  Fighting Islamic terrorists is honorable and necessary.  Mistakes made by .001% of our soldiers does not negate the wonderfully courageous efforts of 99.999% of them.  Spouting anti-war rhetoric does not negate the fact that our soldiers are dying every day to give U.S. citizens the right to protest and criticize their country and president.

Our country was founded on freedom based on law.  When we reward lawbreakers with privileges not given to law-abiders, we undermine the foundation of our country.

President Bush was fairly elected in both 2000 and 2004.  Certainly 2000 was close, but the law was followed and he was correctly chosen as our president.  To not give him the respect due the leader of the greatest nation on earth is unpatriotic and childish.  You can disagree with people without disrespecting them. President Bush deserves our respect based simply on the fact that he is our duly elected president.  Period.

So we will appease the illegal immigrants, we will appease the radical Muslims, we will appease the left-wing anti-war protestors, we will appease the history revisionists, and eventually we WILL be eaten by the crocodile of appeasement.  That crocodile is already well into his meal of USA a la Appeasement.
