How do you spell “penis”?

The first grader was working on a writing assignment and raised his hand and asked the teacher, “How do you spell ‘penis’?
The teacher was surprised, and thinking she probably had misunderstood him, she walked closer to him and asked, “What did you want to spell?”
“Penis,” the child repeated. “How do you spell ‘penis’?
The teacher wasn’t a prude but she also couldn’t imagine why the child was writing about a penis. She looked flustered briefly, and then the child continued: “I’ve got the ‘hap’ part. I just don’t know how to spell the ‘penis’ part.” (Clue: He was trying to spell “happiness.”)
