Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen Pet Peeves

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen of Carol’s Pet Peeves

(1) People who use public restrooms and apparently try to see how much urine they can get on the seat and floor. I’m always puzzled how women manage to get it all over everything. Wouldn’t it be simpler to just pee in the toilet? And if you MUST pee on the seat and elsewhere, at least clean up after yourself.

(2) People who pass you on the expressway, then pull over in front of you and slow down.

(3) Sales personnel who act as though I’m infringing on their time when I ask them a question - although helping customers is what they’re being paid to do. No customers = no business = no job.

(4) The telephone rings, and when I say “Hello” there is that brief silence as the computer generated call notifies someone that the call has been answered so they can begin their telemarketing spiel. I always hang up during that brief silence.

(5) People who pronounce words incorrectly. For example: saLmon, ofTen.

(6) People who mix up similar words in their writing. For example: affect/effect, you’re/your, their/they’re/there, role/roll. Of course sometimes it’s just a typo. I’m talking about people who do it all the time and don’t know the difference.

(7) Movies that are a complete waste of my time - like “Failure to Launch.”

(8) A commercial I hear on the radio all the time. Don’t know what they’re advertising, but a man is talking about something, and a woman interrupts him to say, “Tell them about the bonus, Harry!” He keeps talking, and she continues interrupting with the same stupid sentence every few seconds until he finally says whatever it is that she wanted him to say. Most annoying commercial I’ve ever heard. So annoying that I have no idea what they’re advertising, and if I DID know, I’d make sure not to buy any of it. Now I change radio stations as soon as I hear it begin.

(9) People who always assume the worst in others - the eternal victims.

(10) People who send endless forwarded emails with the tender stories that always end with a line about sending it to all your friends… just annoying. I’m good friends with the “delete” key.

(11) Adults who pick their nose. (Kids, too - but at least they’re kids. Adult have no excuse except they’re gross.)

(12) Negative personalities. No matter what happens, these people automatically see the negative side of it. They complain all the time. They should realize no one feels sorry for them - everyone just doesn’t want to be around them. Life is hard. Deal with it.

(13) Online businesses that have shipping and handling charges that are outrageous - way more than it cost to actually package and handle the merchandise.

Wednesday Wisdom - Living a Life That Matters

I’ve seen this via email a couple of times, and it is helpful to read occasionally.  It helps me re-focus on the important things in life.  I hope you get something out of it.

Live a life that matters Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.  There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.  All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.  Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.  There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.  All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.  Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.  So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.  It won’t matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived at the end.

It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?

How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion,
courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.

What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s not a matter of circumstance, but of choice.

Vow to live a life that matters.
