Our Soldiers WILL Fight Your Wars

Look at Michelle Malkin’s latest post about anti-military vandals at the UNC-Chapel Hill ROTC headquarters.  The limited vocabulary vandals wrote some venomous epithets on the doors:  “We won’t fight your wars!”  and “F*** Off.”

Fortunately for them, we have wonderful and patriotic soldiers who love our country, freedoms and rights so much that they WILL fight this war for all of us.

  • Hungry Children

The Education Wonks has a story about a young Texas teacher who came up with a unique way to address a common problem.  One thing I’ve learned in my current teaching position is that even in the wealthiest school systems there are pockets of poverty.  In the midst of million dollar homes, there are children who come to school hungry, with no books to call their own and no jackets to keep them warm in cold weather.

Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen Reasons I’m Thankful

    Thirteen Reasons I Am Thankful
    (In no particular order)

    1.  I am reasonably healthy.

    2. I have people who love me and would do anything for me.

    3. My job is fulfilling, and I feel I make a positive difference for the children I teach.

    4. I live in The United States of America where we have freedoms we cherish.

    5. I have a sister who helps me with the technical aspects of this blog (Beth at Blue Star Chronicles).

    6. Despite making some really stupid mistakes in my life, I got through them without any irreparable damage.

    7. Sunshine and Sweet Stuff - my two little granddaughters who continually delight me.

    8.  Spring flowers and the general “greening” of nature at this time of year.

    9. My two adult children who each have such a good sense of humor.  We always have a good time talking together, and I’m so proud of the mature and responsible adults they’ve become.

    10.  I’m back with PawPaw - long history there.

    11. PawPaw and I are building our dream home on some of the most beautiful land in Tennessee.

    12. Modern conveniences such as cars, grocery stores, the flush toilet, telephone, TiVo, cameras, computers and electricity.

    13. My extended family and heritage.

(Note: I’m leaving for a trip to Georgia to attend a funeral and will be gone for a couple days with no access to a computer.  I’m sorry, but I won’t be able to add links to other Thursday Thirteens this week.  I hope you’ll still visit and leave a comment - and I’ll be back to linking next Thursday.  THANKS!)

Andrea Clarke - an unbelievable story

When I first read about Andrea Clarke I figured it was one of those tales that make its way through the internet - a story someone fabricated and sent around to see how far the story would go.  It turns out, however, that it is a true story - an unbelievable and horrifying one.  And it’s happening right here in the United States - in Texas.

When Terry Schiavo was killed last year, I couldn’t believe that despite the fact that she had parents who wanted her to live and who were willing to take care of her for the rest of her life, her husband - who already had another girlfriend and children - was allowed to prevail in making the decision to kill her.

There is something seriously wrong and inhumane about a society that not only allows such things to happen but even supports it.  And now it appears something very similar is happening once again.

Beth at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has several posts on Andrea Clarke’s story.  I won’t repeat what she’s written - click HERE, HERE, and HERE and read it for yourself.

Tolerance - Every “Orientation” is NOT Okay

This makes me sick.  There ARE boundaries to what is acceptable and ethical.  Every “orientation” is NOT okay.  Just because you feel a certain way does not mean that it is normal and all right.
