Don’t Put That In Your Mouth!

A little levity amidst all the serious stuff going on.

Warning:  Consider yourself warned - Female problems post ahead!

I wrote last week about going to the dentist and being on antibiotics - and how, for me,  antibiotics always lead to a yeast infection.

Well, of course, my body followed the usual protocol and so I went to the pharmacy and bought a one-dose “insert” (their terminology - not mine).  As I opened the package to extract the syringe with the medication, I noticed the warning in large print:  DO NOT TAKE BY MOUTH.

I won’t go into the mental image that evoked - but I’m still giggling about it.

My Nephew, Andrew

Our family just got word today that my nephew, Andrew, who works for a youth ministry in Los Angeles, had a stroke this morning and is in the hospital.  He was bleeding from his brain stem, and they were transferring him to another hospital for surgery.  It sounds very discouraging.

My sister and her husband are on their way to L.A. - probably arriving about now (10:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time).  We hope to hear more soon.

If you happen to read this blog tonight, please say a prayer for Andrew.  He’s just 26 years old - one of my son’s playmates when they were little.

Tribute to 9-11 Victims - Check out 2996

On September 11, 2006, the 2,996 people who were killed in the 9-11 attacks will be commemorated by bloggers worldwide.  This is a non-partisan, non-political endeavor.  After all, the 9-11 victims were from many different countries and cultures, from different religions, political parties, socio-economic status, races, ages and employment status.

Check out the 2,996 site for more information.  I’ve signed up and have received the name of the person I will blog about on 9-11-06.  Why don’t you click on the link and sign up, too?  With so much attention on the people who carried out the attacks, this is an effort to focus attention on the 2,996 victims.

9-11 Tribute Site:  http://www.dcroe.com/2996/

What is the purpose of the 2,996 tributes?  Here’s what D.Challener Roe, the founder of the project writes about it:

I hate that the limited resources of my brain are clogged with names like Bundy, Manson, Columbine and Al-Qaeda, but I almost never hear the names of their victims.

I hope that by having 2,996 of us write a tribute to these people that we will each learn about our victims. We will burn into our own brains the details of their lives and come to know more about them than we do about the monsters who took their lives. I can say that after doing my own research I will never forget the name of my victim.

I think of this a little bit like a giant wake, where we celebrate their lives and not the circumstances of their unfortunate deaths.

By taking the time and energy to remember them we can keep them alive in our own memories. We can keep them alive for as long as we refuse to forget them.
