Unexpected Pleasures

As I was driving home from work today, I planned a quick stop at Wal-Mart to pick up some things that I needed.  However, at the last minute I kept driving and went on home instead - planning on a quiet evening alone.  Within fifteen minutes of arriving home, there was a knock on my front door.  It as my son!  He owns a landscaping business, and he had been working on a yard in my neighborhood.  And since he was in the neighborhood . . .  What a nice surprise. I’ve never been so thankful for NOT going shopping!

I fixed him a cup of coffee and we sat down and started chatting. My phone rang.  It was my daughter.  She and Sweet Stuff and Sunshine (my two granddaughters) were just leaving from the pool where my granddaughters had  had their swim lessons.  She wanted to drop by for a quick visit and to pick up the two books I bought for the girls at the book fair at my school.

Then PawPaw called.  He had just gotten in from his  business trip to Knoxville.  He had planned on staying overnight but decided to come on home early instead.

So less than 45 minutes after I got home from work, my evening alone had turned into a mini family reunion - with only my son-in-law and daughter-in-law missing.  We ended up having such a great time visiting before everyone left for their own homes again.  Sometimes unexpected occasions end up being the best ones.

According to the Washington Post: Fox News commentator Tony Snow was named White House press secretary today after top officials assured him that he would be not just a spokesman but an active participant in administration policy debates, people familiar with the discussions said. A former director of speechwriting for President Bush’s father, Snow views himself as well positioned to ease the tensions between this White House and the press corps because he understands both politics and journalism, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the appointment had not been officially confirmed, although an announcement is expected today. “He knows most of you,” Bush said today as he announced Snow’s appointment in the briefing room where outgoing press secretary Scott McClellan has presided, “and he’s agreed to take the job anyway.” … “President Bush hates responding to the press, hates responding to political enemies — he thinks it’s beneath him,” Snow said on Fox News in March. “He’s got a stubborn streak.” What the president needed, he said, was “a series of vigorous defenses” of his position. Bush said he was well aware that Snow had often disagreed with him. “I asked him about that,” Bush said, and “he said, ‘You should hear what I said about the other guy.’ “ I love the dig that the President made at the White House Press Corps. The bad news is that everyone in the White House Press Corps already hates Tony Snow because he works for FOX News. That ranks Snow right up there with Goebbels in their warped universe. The good news is that Snow is stubborn, convincing, and is likely to serve as a good “cheerleader” to emphasize things that are going well but that the mainstream media ignores. The economy is now at its best point since the Clinton Bubble and it’s a solid economy that’s based on reality,  not on Dot-Coms that were never more than a pipe dream. The war on terror is going well, too, despite the pronouncements of doom and gloom. All in all, a good choice. There was the three-week trip to Disney World with my friend and her family, then in the same summer, the trip, by myself, up to Idaho, to visit my grandparents, and then my senior choir trip to Disney World. On the choir trip, I would see all these girls crying because they missed their boyfriends, and calling them every night and talking to them for an hour, and I would think, What wimps! I missed my boyfriend too, and you didn t see my crying my eyes out. Well, in all those trips I don t think I missed Matthew as much as I am going to miss him now. I have to go on a three-day trip with the ENMU choir to Santa Fe. Matthew have already planned the times I am going to call him, and he is going to try to get permission to go to work late, so he can see me off. I just might cry, it will be the first night Matthew and I have spent apart since we got married. I fear that I have turned into a wimpy girl. I m gonna miss my baby. :( A Recycled Post…— Free In Him!
