According to CNN (which I’m watching as I type), Barack Obama has selected Senator Joe Biden of Delaware as his Vice Presidential running mate. Read a little about Joe Biden’s history and see photo and video below.

Senator Joe Biden has apparently become Barack Obama’s running mate. I wouldn’t put it past Obama for this to be a distraction from the “real” choice that he will announce later on Saturday. However, since CNN is reporting it and is saying that they have it from several reliable sources, it is likely to be true.
I’ve been reading about Joe Biden the last little while - since the rumor mills have been running rampant this evening with reports that Secret Service personnel had been dispatched to Biden’s home and that the other possible VP choices had been notified that they were NOT the final choice. What I learned is that Biden has an interesting history.
You can find a time line of Joe Biden’s life at his official website. It tells of his entry into Delaware politics in November 1972. In December 1972, his wife and three young children were in a horrific car accident which killed his wife and young daughter. His two sons were critically injured but eventually recovered completely. In 1977 he married his second wife and they had a daughter in 1981.
Joe Biden’s oldest son, Beau, serves in the Delaware Army National Guard and is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq in October. That fact should bring some favorable comparisons to John McCain who also has a son serving in the military. I would guess this was at least one of the contributing factors in Obama’s selection of Biden.
Joe Biden was born November 20, 1942, and his age is 65 years. His full name is Joseph Robinette Biden.
Since Joe Biden has been Delaware’s senator since 1972 and is serving his sixth term - which makes him Delaware’s longest-serving senator, and since he is also cahirman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he will definitely bring gravitas to Obama’s lagging campaign.

Now won’t all the folks who signed up to receive a text message from Obama with the VP announcement, be a little ticked off that the TV stations got the message first? And when those cell phone numbers they so eagerly provided are used for campaign solicitations, I imagine they’ll be even more annoyed.

Both of McCain’s sons are serving in the military. One is a Marine who just recently returned to the States after a tour of duty in Iraq. The other one is at Annapolis Naval Academy.
Understandably, McCain doesn’t talk about that much. Considering his own experience serving a tour of duty as the son of the of the Commander of all U.S. Forces in Europe and then Commander of all U.S. Forces in the Pacific. He knows what can happen should his sons be captured and him being a U.S. Senator and probably the next President of the United States.

Biden is the best the Democratic Party has but he is not enough to offsett the inexperience, character flaws and radical voting record of Obama.
